Have you tried doing a system restore? it might solve your problem and get it back for you, if you refresh your system to about a month ago, depending on how long it has been since WMM stopped working, and as you said, deleted itself.
About the fake downloads: coming from someone who has lots of experience with fake sites, and getting viruses from such. Unless it's a torrent, which are illegal, you cannot get ahold of WMM without buying it, or buying a OS with it. And usually with those fake downloads, come viruses, so if you have downloaded some of these files, I'd suggest running a full scan of your computer with virus removal software, to be on the safe side. =)
Oh I have done the scan afterwards because the computer stopped working lol
By the way WMM didn't delete itself it is still here just doesn't show up and when I go to do anything with it it comes up that an error has ocurred with it:S
Okay the error message says "" Windows movie maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell microsoft about the problem.
We have created and error repot that you can send to help us improve windows movie maker. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymonus."
Was there an error number with it? Did you try a system restore? It could be a simple Windows update problem that has yet to be fixed, but it's kinda hard for me to know exactly.
Well I just did a system restore last night and it did nothing to help and nope no number for the error but it asks do I want to send an error report and I have done this and nothing has happened because of it
Ok, I found the solution to your problem. First, uninstall your current WMM, then go here: http://download.live.com/moviemaker download WMM, and then install it. And you'll have it back.
Ok. I'm running in Vista, so it's being a little more difficult for me to figure out what to tell you and how to tell you how to do this. Try and bear with me. I'm trying to figure out how to help you through this step by step.
No problem. I've had my share of computer issues, and I still continue to, so I'm learning alongside you as to how to go about fixing this.
With that last link I gave you, that would have worked if you didn't already have WMM on your computer as it is, but through the 'auto-update' process I realized it'd be easier for you to just get a direct download link to the program, so I am obtaining the actual program right now, and due to the fact this is a direct program link, I will PM you it. If this one doesn't work....well, I'll keep trying. However, if you haven't uninstalled your current WMM, you might want to do so now, so it'll be easier to install the new one when I give you the link.
