Weather: blindingly sunny and cold, temperature 28 F, light snow on the ground, no wind.
Started out in the outdoor arena warming up Calypso while my friend Donna tacked up her Morgan mare Ramoth.
After Donna comes out, we head out on the trails at a walk. Footing is OK but there is still some slippery stuff under the first inch or two of dirt. We avoided about half of the trails because of really jagged ice and frozen mud.
Most of the cut cornfields were great as far as footing so we rode from field to field on the trails and used the cornfields for cantering and galloping from one end to the other.
Some of the neighbors dogs got onto the field we were on and started barking and coming at us. My friend Donna started getting nervous and I didn't know how Calypso would react to the yappy dogs. So rather than wait for a bolt or freakout I just drove Calypso forward and chased the dogs back into the brushline.....
Caly seemed to like getting after the dogs, and the dogs were not so brave when they got 1000 lbs of QH coming at them.
Today was probably one of the best days I've had on horseback.
