Budget Horse Getaways within a day's drive of Chicago, Illinois

So I've just taken up western pleasure riding after several years - I've been taking lessons once per week for about four months. I've been cantering and trotting in the arena and in a small state park in a suburb of Chicago, and am looking something more.

I'd really love to go on a sort of horse vacation - just a day or two of all day riding, maybe with some horsemanship related activities. I see many expensive vacations that are way above my budget. I also see many places nearby, in western Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin where I could just go for a simple one or two hour trail ride. But I want more than that.

Can anyone recommend a stable? I was hoping for a couple days or three of all day riding, preferably for less than $500. There's not much good horse country in Illinois, so I wouldn't mind driving over to Ohio or Kentucky.

I'd appreciate any recommendations!

You might give Big South Fork a look.

I assume you want to rent a horse, or do you want to bring your own?

Yep, I'll be renting a horse.

Any reason in particular you recommend Big South Fork?

That is a long days drive from Chicago, but the South Fork area is nice.

It's an equine Disneyland.

There's equine facility's galore, lots of campgrounds, horse camps and cabins for rent, the trails are beautiful, scenery spectacular, and generally something for everyone. While you can ride as little as two hours, there are outfitters that will keep you on the trail for a week at a time.

Daniel Boone National Forest to the north in Kentucky, Jamestown TN on the West, and Onida TN on the East.

Just google big south fork horse rentals and then refine your search.
