    Fall Color in the Cascades

With great weather, for a few days at least. Yesterday we went to the Crystal Ski area and went up high.

Yesterday’s sunny weather made doing the Basin Lake Loop a ball. The reds, yellows, and golds across the mountain sides had lyrics from the “Sound of Music” flowing through my head.
Views included Mt Rainier, Mt Adams, and Mt Baker at points. The wave upon wave of ridges between us and the various summits were incredible as they faded into the distance.

Two highlights, among many, were watching aerial logging operations in the valley below us. Looking down on helicopters in flight is pretty nifty! Another memorable site was a large herd (gaggle, group, pride, ?) of mountain goats on the peak above Basin Lake. It’s amazing how they can cling to nearly vertical surfaces.

All in all a great day to be on the horses in the Cascades!

Oh, beautiful pictures Trails, thank you for posting them. I spent most of my teenage years riding through western Washington on Pope & Talbot land, never made it up into the Cascades though, and you sure make me wish I had! Did take a couple backpacking trips up Wolf River and Hurricane Ridge with the llamas though.
