I have ridden at BSF numerous times but have not ridden on that side of the park.

Drive to Bandy Creek Campground in the center of the park. Do not pull your trailer there because it is steep/sharp switchbacks. It can be done but you will need a good truck. You can actually camp at Bandy Creek and they have stables for the horses so I know folks do enter the campground from the Onidea side.

Anyway... go to Bandy Creek Campground, they have a GREAT Ranger Station there and the Rangers usually ride so they can give you great info.

Is Bandy open? Isn't that part of the national park/rec system? YOu might want to call and check before going - with the gov't shutdown, some of those places are closed as well. The private campgrounds in the area may still be open, but this is a really busy time of year so they might also be totally booked.

I've ridden out of Bandy Creek at Big South Fork (once). Good, well maintained trails with a lot of sand/dirt, but occasional rocky/gravel areas as well, so be mindful of your horse's feet. Gorgeous scenery, lots of water and shade, and the stalls and campground at Bandy Creek were very nice to stay at. They even have showers!
