This August, I'm going to be taking a week-long trip to a lake with my friend and our horses, Beau and Justin.
Now, they are both barefoot; Beau's a QH and Justin is a TB. Beau has very good feet; he's only a bit ouchie when he steps directly on a big rock or something, you know the kind. Justin's feet aren't quite as good as Beau's, but for a TB he has VERY good feet.
We're going to be looking at the place before we go (I don't know if the trails are dirt trails or paved), but I want to be able to ride him (Beau) on the trails for almost the whole day, probably each day. Of course he will get breaks in between, but I don't want him to get sore feet.
So my question is, should I do anything to toughen up his feet a bit before we go? I was thinking of putting Keratex on him the month before we leave, but I'm not sure if it's really necessary.
