My TB is trained English but I want to retrain her to western. Hopefully by this Summer, though I don't actually know how long it would take. Depends on the horse?

Western Thoroughbred

I ride my Thoroughbred Western and English. A lot of people criticize him for being a TB, but we try our hardest to prove them wrong!

Endiku, I think you make a great point about OTTBs having little association with western training, etc. I used to ride at an equine therapy facility and one of calmest, most trustworthy horses there was a 12yo OTTB mare who was ridden in a simple little s hackamore. She was a beautiful English mover but I never thought twice about her in her western getup. She was an amazing trail horse, too, and seemed quite content with her new life! I just had a baby and my husband and I are moving, but my 2 year plan includes an OTTB that I plan to ride strictly western.

i actually ride my tb western. he was off the track and was ridden with students at my farm for about a month before i got him. when i first rode him, he was still a little uneasy with the new bit and saddle but for the most part he is doing fine! i have had him for about 3 months now and hew keeps getting better. good luck!
