Arabian Western Pleasure
we got our daughter a coming 4 year old Arabian mare who has been extensively trained to be a wp show horse. she's a great young mare. great personality, full of try...and loaded with patience.
i am looking for a local arabian trainer/instructor who we can start working with. arabians aren't big in our area, so i'm not sure how long it will take to find the right trainer.
i have experience with arabians and half arabians. problem with my experience is that it's not in wp. it's dressage and saddleseat mostly, with some h/j. i haven't done anything wp since i was my daughter's age. when i ride the mare, things are slowly coming back, but i can't help feeling that this mare deserves to have a rider who knows how to use her training to the fullest.
i wondered if anyone had any seeds of wisdom that they could share, while i search for a trainer?
we have just started to ride her...easing her into her new life with us...and riding as weather allows. i have gotten very nice, correct circles, side passes, really nice transitions...but only working in walk trot, right now. i can not seem to get her into her wp jog. she is easy to get into correct frame. i was messing around on her, while i sat on her in the middle of a field...her first time there...and i did manage to get her to spin. not a tight, reining spin, but i can't help but feel that if i asked her to, she would have tried. mmm...trying to think of what else... we really haven't done much else, i don't think.
i would be every so grateful for any words of wisdom that you have to offer!!
thanks in advance.
