    I always took issue with light oil (as you can see from my avatar, LOL). It always turned dark on me so I figured why not spend less and buy dark from the beginning? For the little shows I did, it didn't matter. We got weird looks when we wore vests/slinkies instead of the traditional button down shirt from the local Wal-mart.

    The higher the numbers of X's the higher the quality.

    The shape is important -- you should have a well-shaped hat. Rods does a good job with their QH crease if you don't have a good shaper around.

    If you decide to get a straw hat, I recommend the American Hat Company straws. I'm sort of an addict to them.

    Your hat should complement your total look.
