Do you band your horse's mane? HELP

Tomorrow I have a 4-h horse show. Just the local fair. My horse's mane is 8 or so inches long, but I don't know weather to band it or not. Usually I just leave it, pick out all the tangles and let it be, but I don't know if I should band it or not. I don't want to cut her mane any shorter. Help.

since it is a 4-H show I would, if it is a big one. if its a smaller show, then you can leave it if you dont want to fool with it, but I would def., band it if it is a bigger 4-H show. :)

At shows, I live by the mantra: I have to be as well turned out as my best competitor.
So, yeah, I would band.

I would consult with your leader and/or other club members as to what the "norm" for your area is. It can vary from one locale to the next.
That said, it never hurts to be the best dressed/styled in the room, so when in doubt, go the extra mile.
Good luck!!!!!

Thanks guys we showed yesterday and got 2 in equitation we did pretty bad in pleasure because my horse didnt want to pick up the rigt lead going to the left. We scratched out of our otther class because it was so hot and my horse was dripping sweat. In our area we broke a record for heat. It was crazy.

I know its a little late but if your horses mane is 8 inches it needs to be thinned or cut to band it properly. I don't like banding anymore so I let my boy's mane grow out and I french braid it the night before and then when I show it leaves waves in his mane. Looks better than just leaving it straight IMO. (Oh I have a QH and I mostly show western).
