Name the show.

$20 says you are judging the entire discipline by something you (allegedly) saw at some dinky show.

Now if it was a legitimate show, you should have filed a formal complaint.

Disagree. It is the minority that has this attitude. If it was really about the money, they most certainly could find a better occupation that horse trainer.

Most was the keyword there.. I'm never said every trainer is like that.

Most would be the majority not the minority technically.

is this the photo you are referenceing?

There is no rule on the forum that says a person cannot say a negative thing about a riding discipline. Not all posts must be positive. They just have to be without personal attack or rude language.
The OP's comments are rather vague, since we dont' really know what was going on, not being able to see it. It's ok to find the actions of the trainers to be unacceptable. And it's ok for others to explain why said actions are not as bad as they appear and why they may only be the "bad apples".

The OP didn't even know what draw reins were when he/she saw them at the show, and now has suddenly come to the conclusion that they were witnessing horrible abuse at the hands of these previously unknown devices?

Stupid question !

Yeah, the picture you shared isn't that bad... The foam is just from the breastollar rubbing. My horses look like that after a good workout.

But, the practices you described.. just... icky

Yeah, after seeing that I'm not a huge fan of my area's western pleasure trainers.

Oh good lord, I give up with you two.. You're clearly not even getting my point..I don't care if it's the majority or the minority.. It's not about that, my whole point is that there ARE "trainers" out there who are like that, and I know more WP trainers who are the "bad" trainers than I know "good" trainers.. I know GoAppendix has some underlying issue with me because of the showmanship thread, but it's really unnecessary to try to pick a fight over something this simple.

I guess if you want to say "in my area" there are more forceful and "bad" WP trainers than there are good..
