Roper...I wanted to "like" your last two posts but nothing happens when I click on like. This forum has been giving me a hard time the last two days. Anyway, good posts.

in some places yes^^^ they are improving. I've seen plenty of changes just in the last 10 yrs since I started showing.

But I can still go down to southern NM/AR even TX and ill see some of the raunchier riding habits.

Not always, and they have gotten better...buts its going to be a LONG process.

GotadunQH your not being snarky. Trying to educate me on something that you do and like. That's good.
I was responding about not meaning to be arguementive because that is not the way I am. Too much of that on this or any forum already.
I am truly deabating this and would like insight since I have a few horses that need to be trained and shown.
I live in Texas Western riding rules and the WP classes are popular and profitable for breeders.
For the record I do not like english and hunter classes in stock horse breeds either. Those WP gaits are used in EP also. Not in the Arab classes. Mking an Arab do those gaits is counterproductive to the breed.
They are not built that way and have animated trotts.
Park horse classes I am wary of also. Shalom

Thanks...I'm glad you know I was not being snarky. You had a bad taste of WP in the 80's. Me, as a WP person? I'm am TOTALLY embarassed by what was popular back then. Did I do those things to my horses? Nope....but that's what was done by a gazillion others. Then AQHA got a clue and instituted a change in rules etc.....but Rome wasn't built in a day, so this change will take even longer! It has gotten better, but there will always be the bad examples no matter HOW many rules you put in place. The thing is....judges won't reward them anymore.

But it's rampant in all horse show venues with all breeds and disciplines. Us humans ALWAYS try and fix something that AIN'T broke....to make it better for OUR standards and to get one-up on the other guy. While some may not think WP is natural....well, yep with the GOOD WP horses...it is...from birth. That is the ONE thing QH breeders did right...breed them to have the conformation and MINDSET that thinks slow and easy. Then when the horse comes into training...HALF of the battle is done because the aptitude and genetics are already there. The training just puts some polish on the natural ability. That's what so many NON-WP don't understand....it's there already, we just put on the finishing touches. And yep....babies DO jog and lope around like this. My own horse does it...at liberty, free longeing OR on the longe line when I'm not on him CONTROLLING him to move like this. He does it on his own.

Yup I've tried to 'like' a few posts, but it ain't happening.....maybe it's for the best! The forum has been doing some strange things lately, perhaps it's the change in the seasons!

There are some really neat things about WP that I kind of like, and there are things that I don't like so much. However the same can be said for most disciplines, if not all. And some people like to just pick out a few negatives and run with it, and no matter what you say they cannot see beyond what they consider a bad thing.

For example, cannot remember where I read it, but it was a horse racing thread, and it boggled my mind because I have worked in one of the most intesive racing industries for a very long time (when I was younger and more spry!) , and some of the stuff that was being posted in the thread was just absurd, but it was maybe one or two incidences of bad training and it tarred a whole industry as being inhuman.

Guess the moral of the story is: ONE BAD APPLE CAN SPOIL THE WHOLE DARN BUNCH

and youtube....bahahahaha....i see it sooo much. Ill get on to see some competitions and people start bashing it...and all I can think is...

"have these kids even stepped foot in a barn before...or even ridden a horse? Or do they just hear what PETA and the critics say and spin it around to make it more dramatic."

They take one instance of bad horsemanship they see and make it out to be world wide O_O

Yup, I have seen the 'PETA patrol' out and about. They tend to take one bad thing and run with it. The fact that they also have so many 'celebrity' reps who hold no weight in my eyes for having any idea of what really goes on in the real world, it's just sick. The hold no weight with me.

I laughed and laughed at this:
Dear Pam (content warning: extreme sarcasm) « Cami Ryan

Need I say more
