Hi, I bought myself and my daughter a paso fino mare who is very well trained. I am reasonably knowledgeable regarding Local QH or non gaited WP showing, but The paso showing has really got me confused. Can anyone enlighten me on how to go about preparing my daughter (11 yr.s) for next year's show season with her paso? What are the similarities and differences between gaited WP and non gaited WP? Going to post this in the breeds section too.......Ugh, just realized how horrible this pic is, I promise she's not nearly so sway backed, long, or sickle hocked, will post realistic pics tomorrow.
The difference between NON-Gaited and Gaited WP horses is that the non-gaited have more of a better built stride than gaiteds for WP. In my personal opinion I think she would be better off doing GAITED PLEASURE. Its just like WP, but specifically designed for Gaited horses. Whether its a Foxtrotter or Paso Fino.
You can tell the difference. Paso Fino's have more of a 'bunched up' stride, and Non-Gaited have more of a 'flowing and extended' stride. As of tips I really can't give you any. Because the judge will be looking for at the horses with the leveled heads and long strides, than the high-set head and bunchy stride. They will score you reguardless of breed. Because the origanal WP horse has a low set head and neck, flowing stride, & the rider is usually one handed. Now with Gaited horses you usually have to ride with 2 hands to keep the speed and head under control. Hope this helped!
Well how dose she ride? If she is truly gated I think you would want to show with other WP gated horses instead of trying to make her something she's not.
I was riding a paso show horse last week, lots of fun but nothing like riding my western paints.
