WP Lope :(

So... I switched trainers about a month ago and we've been focusing alot on issues that I have on the ground I.e. Lunging and then doing general basic showmanship stuff. We've worked on the jog and a tiny bit on the lope.

Yesterday he told me I need to focus on english for a while. Says I've been doing the slow slow slow for too long and it's made it so Ri doesn't know how to move properly (Which I kind of knew and I've been trying to push him forward this whole summer) but this gave me confirmation.

He says we can go back to the lope, eventually but not until we know how to move forward... :(

Agreed, I had to do this with Roman. I only rode english for 3 months before state fair. I was warming up for my WP class and all of a sudden he knew how to lope.

Contrary to popular belief, a horse must go fast first so he can go slow later.

Trained
Good trainer! He'll probably start working on collection and getting him to round up in his back rather than crawl around on the forehand the way so many WP horses do. It's a whole different feeling when they are pushing from behind rather than pulling from in font, it's very very cool!

I have a really good feeling about him. Already we've come miles in just our ground work alone, which he is a big fan of. He says everything you do on the ground translates up into your riding.

I've been with him a month and have completely stopped using training devices all together. I'm longing fairly comfortable (lunging has been a huge issue with me) and now we have been given a ton of direction.

He is almost 2 hours from my house which is poopie and he costs a bit more but I think I made a good decision...

I think it may feel to me like I'm going backwards but then the results will be amazing is my hope. I am excited. I felt like I was floating when I was trotting the other day.

I realize that's it's painful watching your WP horse race around like A horse from the track. Trust me, when I was told I was only allowed to ride English with roman until the day of my WP class at state I about cried.

I'm going to make my husband video tape me because I do feel like I'm FLYING! I mean, flying... and I have a feeling I'm probably only going about a hunter pace.....
