WP mane

Is shaving the mane becoming the thing to do now instead of banding?

anyone?!

Im sure many are looking at this and saying.. shave the mane? Are you insane... but I have now seen 3 wp horses with manes that are shaved.. like police horses.. ill attach a photo I found on google. The horses I have seen have had theirs a little bit longer than this...

So ...

Is this the new way to do it ?

We call that roaching the mane, but no I haven't seen any WP around here like that. But, I am going to a show Saturday, so I'll look around and ask!

I don't know that it's the new fad but yes, many people at the AQHA level have started doing that, especially with a horse that has a thick mane. Be careful to check w/ your show rules though because a friend of mine does AQHA and Palomino - the Palamino association does not allow for a roached mane.

I think I just showed my true colors on how much I know about terminology !
Learn something new everyday! I asked about it and the owner said it was just easier, and she had seen some others like it and gave it a try. I for one will keep my bands! Although my horse has a great neck.... im not going to risk it.

Gig'Em let me know if you see any of this out there!

I have 2 wp horses that are shown with roached manes. Some halter people who bring home world champions encouraged me to do it years ago :)

I don't know about forlock, but I know you're supposed to leave some over the wither to be in accordance with the AQHA rule book. Why? I don't know.

I just got sick of manes that looked like a beginner banded them when I'm good at banding ;) These two horses are ridiculously thick and one has a cowlick halfway down.

I'd be really happy if the trend shifted to hunters as well :-D
