I showed April in WP this weekend at a bigger show. She did very well for me, I had to hold her up a bit when we loped to keep her collected and to prevent her from taking off.... but she picked up both leads right away (something we have been struggling with), she didnt try to bite anyone (she tried in warm-ups ), and she never blew up or anything (a couple horses did in our cut). There was over 60 riders in my division and I didnt make the finals but I never expected to either. I was happy with her, she even kept her head down and didnt try any of that bucking crap she was pulling a couple weeks ago. I was a wee bit nervous with how she was going to behave since it was a big show and she was going to be stalled a couple nights there, but she was a good girl. I will have pics sometime... my mom has them. But here is the backdrop pic...she was scared though, she was snorting at the green carpet but then tried to eat the flowers behind her....silly girl.
thanks guys!!!! She gets a couple days off and then Im going to switch over to English. She has a awsome trot for WP but her lope is a little more extended then I would like for WP... but it is awsome smooth. i have ridden her a coupld times in English and within the ridding time she was starting to extend her trot for me....so we will see how it goes!!!!
this year she is but then she is going to move to sr next year (she is 5 right now) I havent showed QH with her yet cause we arent quite there yet and im tight on $$$$ (cant quite drop a few hundred for a weekend)...but we did the open show circut which has a big show at the end of the year. I know the basics of English but want to get lesons to refine everything.... I think she may be able to do some hunter hack, but I would have to find a trainer.
I know what you mean about the money. I was going to prove to my husband that the horses didnt cost nearly what he was saying and then I added up trainer/lessons/shows.... (this is my first full year doing AQHA shows and I have only actually ridden in a couple cus Ri is just a 2 year-old)... I didn't show him the $$$ I figured out... I'm really thinking I should get a part time job to go along w/ my full time job! LOL....
I only had her at a trainer for 2 months when I first got her (she was 2 when I bought her) she was very green with like 45 days on her... anyhows Ive been doing the rest of the work but would LOVE to send her to a trainer, or atleast take lessons.
i thought about the whole 2nd job thing too... but then I wouldnt have time to spend with her... My BF has NO idea how much I sneak out for the horses, but i have been slowly letting it leak. Im just glad that i had purchased all of my tack before I met him so that he doesnt know what I really spent He always asks me why I need 4 different saddles for 1 horse...lol... (Show western, training, English, Trail/gaming saddle)
When I was at the show this weekend I ran into an old mentor. I hadnt seen him for about 7 years or so and he asked me if I was married yet....I said no and he was like "make sure you find a rich guy that doesnt ride horses".... 'Doesnt ride horses??? why???"
"then you dont have to compete with him for who gets the better horse"...lol.....ya OT....lol
