I do hunter jumpers and dressage but I have a boarder with a very flashy black wp gelding but his owner is very beginner. Her parents pour money into this horse and I would like to ger her showing this summer.
Where can I find "schooling shows" for western pleasure? (Do they call them schooling shows in western?)
Here in Michigan schooling shows are often called "Teddy Bear" show in the spring because the horses are still hairy and bathing and show clothes are not allowed. During the summer and fall these shows are usually called "Come As You Are" shows. There are also "Twilight" shows that are during the week and don't begin until the evening. Most of these shows offer showmanship, english, and western classes and offer exhibitors a chance to train in the arena.
At our horse shows there are always novice classes held. These classes are for people that have not won three 1st place ribbons. That is where the beginners usually enter.
