H/J rider thinking about also doing western/rodeo/speed events?

Hi all!

I've been riding for about 7 or so years. My first trainer was an Eventer so she taught me Jumper style riding, and my new trainer, from my college IHSA team, teaches both Western and English-- she taught/is teaching me Hunter/Huntseat.

So, she's a big barrel racer/rodeo event girl and I want to see what it would be like. I've never done anything outside of English riding except some western trail/pleasure patterns on the ground (like going into boxes, turns, side passes, cantering out of boxes-- stuff you see in a western pleasure (or is it trail?) show) during my lessons, since hunter shows don't have them)

Any tips/tricks? Advice? Is it pretty laid back, etc?

I have two main horses i ride right now. I am on my schools OHSET team. One is an appendix that I righrt english and on trail rides. My other is an APHA quarter horse that is fast and loves to run. Anyone can do both. Timed events are very fun and you can relate and style of riding to it. Timed events can be more relaxed since you aren't being judged and need to look and act a certain way. They're very fun and you should try anything you want.
