And thanks stillstandin! It does make sense, I think my worst worry is not being able to find the right cow, or pulling the wrong one, or letting the wrong cow out.
It shouldn't matter! Maybe it's Minnesota nice but we all help each other out!

When you are at the line before flag is up - start scanning for numbers. That way when they call Flags up - you have a direction to head to instead of getting in the herd and frantically scanning.

What type of sorting is it?

I understand what you say when it shouldn't matter, but I only know 2 people that if they were there, I would not go to them for advice. From what I hear, they are sketchy horse trainers/sellers, and they wouldn't be my first choice for learining the basics. But I'm "new" to the rodeo world, so I don't know everybody and their personalities and abilities. There are several people I can trust for tips, and probably the rest of the people I don't know.

There are different types of sorting? I have heard it reffered to as team penning. Otherwise, it would be the sorting with partners alternating blocking and sorting the cows.
It is timed, and to win you have to have the fastest time and get the most cows out to win (I think that is right, It may be the number of cows in a certain amount of time as well).

Hopefully, I will put up a new thread by Monday with pictures and details. I will post the link to it on here when I make it. I will also share a bit about my Judging competition.

And somewhat good news! There is a 40% chance of rain tomorrow, so my chances of placing will probably be better from the lower turnout on rainy days. (But seriously, unless the arena is turned into a lake, its 40 below zero, or there is a tornado ripping through the town, they don't cancel the rodeo. (OK, that is a bit exagerated, but you get my point.)

Also, now I am the only one from my team going to the State Horse Judging, so I automatically place first on the team! (My goal is to be in the top 20 in the State this year)

Good news and Bad news...

First off, sorry I didn't get back here sooner.

Sunday I did go to my first ranch rodeo......but I didn't get to compete. While I was at horse judging, it POURED rain from 9:00 to 10:45; complete with lightning and the whole sha-bang. The rodeo started at 12:00, and it wasn't cancled. But lucky me , I got a text from my mom saying my instructor called and wasn't coming to the rodeo. She said he said he sold a horse and bought a new one, but my mom didn't really understand much more than that (She isn't a horse person). My FFA advisor had her horse in tow already, so we just went to the rodeo (Just to prove how "lucky" I am, She had loaded her other horse as well, then decided she didn't want to take him and unloaded him).

It is the worst feeling having to sit in the stands and watch everybody else ride their horses, while you can only watch. It's cool to watch them sort and everything, but I hate it all the same.

I did take pictures for the IRHA website and became a paid member!

LOL, it can be done, but I have to really nag him to keep him from diving in. That's okay though, when everyone else has whips and hot-shots, I am able to keep both hands free.

Knack, I'm sorry you weren't able to get involved in the whole thing. Sometimes even the best laid plans run aground and crumble. I'm sure it won't be your only opportunity to go have some fun so now you can start looking forward to next time. That's awesome about getting involved in the IRHA and getting to take some pix for them. Shoot, if you are ever in my area, especially in the summer, just give me a shout and I'll find some cattle for us to terrorize .

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

^ Thanks for the offer, lol! I don't think that would be hard with Dobe around. And I would post some of the pics I took, but I don't know everybody in them and I don't think they would just want some "random" girl posting their picture on a forum. Some of them turned out really cool.

And I am looking forward to meeting the new horse this weekend...and the next rodeo.
