Talking Need help finding the correct western tack for my mare HELP ASAP

HI, Klassy and I are trying some new stuff, We are going from english to western, and she is taking onto it very nice! Lots of fun!
She is a 5 year old TB mare, gone english all her life. Only been ridin western for 4-6 times...
Here is what I need help with :

What bit should I be using? It needs to be somthing with a shank so I can legally show her. I was thinking a myler!?

Where can I find cheap/ish under 80.00 western pads?

Can I use the same bit for WP for gaming?

If you can think of anything let me know

Myler bits are good, but you'll need to transition her from the snaffle. My general recommendations for bitting are in the link in my signature. You can, theoretically, use the same bit for gaming, but you may find that something else works better.

Under $80 Western should go for natural fiber (wool) when you can, and I bet you can find a decent one under $100 (Diamond Wool is a cheaper quality brand). You can find an OK synethetic pad for closer to $40, but I really wouldn't recommend that.

I finally found a place where they sell my favorite bit of all time. I've yet to find a horse that didn't do well in it. It's got nice, short shanks that swivel and the combination of sweet iron and copper in the mouthpiece seem to be well liked. So long as she is well prepared and has at least the basics of neck reining down, then the transition to a curb should be relatively easy.

But if you are really wanting something like a Myler but are squeamish about the price, I really like the looks of this bit and I am currently waiting on my own to arrive.

I suppose you could use the same bit for gaming, but I am a firm believer that when you are doing high speed events where there is a lot of direct reining, snaffles are the way to go.

As for saddle pads, I have been using these for quite some time and I have been very satisfied with them so far.

Jen do you have any idea where I could find that first bit but in a 5 3/4? I cannot find a short shank not broken mouthpiece in that size anywhere!

Sorry to get off topic..!

I certainly wish I did. Heck, I had a hell of a time just finding one in 5". As bad as I hate it, when Rafe's grown, I will likely have to spring for a custom bit to find one that I like that will fit him.

Lol! Paul Taylor Saddle Company. All Problems solved at lowest possible price!

Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.
