Question Please help the show/competition virgin? XD

I want to start showing/competition with my 6yo QH mare. But I don't know where to start... I mostly just lope her around my property. She likes to go fast but she has a great temperament. Could someone give me a rundown of the different shows and what is required of your horse? I was thinking western pleasure because it doesn't sound too complicated.

If she likes to go fast, she is unlikely a western pleasure prospect. Hard to tell what discipline she may be suited without more info than likes fast & good temperment.Pedigree, pics, your riding & training experience etc. how competitive you want to be: local open show or breed level, gymkhana etc?

Here are some pics of her if it might help :) I actually had about 2 years of english training when I was 13 Then switched to western and pretty much taught myself. (I'm 16 now). But I had about 6 months of actual western training last summer. And I have been told that I have excellent form :) Luna responds well to leg commands but is still learning neck reining. She will walk, jog/trot, and lope on command and she stops and turns on a dime. Any of this helpful?

In her pics she looks like a more forward moving horse. I would start by working on the more HUS type classes.Showmanship would be another good class to learn for the both of you.Sounds like she is still pretty green in her training & needs to learn collection & moving off your leg/seat more. Once she is better schooled in that, I find ability to neck reining just comes on it's own. If you don't want to pursue the rail type classes or English other option is to try schooling her in some of the Gymkana events
Just a ? Why is her halter so loose??needs to be pulled up a few notches

Western pleasure is actually very complicated to do properly. A lot of people don't realize how hard it is to keep a horse at that pace while still maintaining impulsion.
oh vair oh and Ponies like this.

It's great you want to get into showing with your horse, really gets you involved with your horse community as it's best to join a local club. If she is 6 and doesn't bridle, you can't show her western unless you want to do gymkhana & barrels. You can show her English as you can ride in a snaffle or anything other english type bit two handed. My best advice to you is, find out about the local show scene, which club runs it and attend some meetings. That way you can hook up with instructors and make your showing experience fun instead of frustrating.

Just attend some shows and see what interests you and what classes look suitable to her temperament. There's lots of fun stuff to do!
