I've been studying [lots of books + online videos] cutting horse training & cattle ranching for about a year now so I know a good deal of the terminology and am familiar with, what I understand to be, the proper practices of the discipline but, only in THEORY with very little real-life-hands-on practice.
All that is to say, I've somehow convinced a local cutting trainer to take me on as a loper. [They're aware of my inexperience in the field ]
I AM an experienced rider and I've done barrel racing for years but never with any formal training. I've always been my own personal trainer (and my horses' as well). There is not an unconfident bone in my body when it comes to horses but, I am a perfectionist and must try and avoid as many mistakes as possible when it comes to tackling new challenges.
Ok ok... the question: Keeping in mind that I really am going solely off of book-knowledge; What are common, slang/lingo terms I might not recognize? What are some of the most common rookie errors I could avoid? What are the trainer's biggest pet peeves?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and, thanks in advance for your advice and input!
