Seat Question...

Somehow in this mess of all that's been going on with my riding and injuries and other issues over this past year or two, I've picked up riding strangely and I'm wondering what's going on here...
I've started riding with an exaggerated arch in my back which I feel comfortable in but when I look in the arena mirror I laugh at myself and I tend to, I guess, move way too much even at the walk. You can sort of see the position here (please ignore that Kainne decided to take the opportunity to chomp my foot at this very moment, lmao):

I try to follow what I remember being told to do and "sit on my pockets" but it becomes really uncomfortable and makes my back sore (I have a very, very messed up back)
I do tend to be a little bit slouchy in the shoulders on top of this, but even when I sit up it's awkward.
It ends up looking kind of like this, which I'm pretty sure is also wrong? Or is it?

(note: please ignore that our mirror is a little warped lol)

What I've begun to wonder is if part of the problem is my saddle, or if it's all me?
Now, I haven't taken lessons since I was pretty young...I would like to, but I really can't afford that at the moment, so for now I've got to sort of rely on you all.
So, what do you think?
I hope the pictures are good enough to the moment I can't get any of me just riding...if not, hopefully my description is enough. I can explain anything at all if needed.

Thanks for any and all help!

If your back gets sore and you've had injuries, you may need to some back strengthening excercises. I would talk to a physical therapist with experience in sports injuries.

Honestly, you sitting the way your supposed to. Even in a western saddle the term "sitting on your pockets" is wrong. Your supposed to sit on the seam of your pants. And Sit up straight and tall, sitting on your pockets makes you slouch.

Green Broke
I thinks its normal to, all my friends used to say that I have a really straight back when im sitting and I just thought well I do mostly dressage so ya know whatever, then my riding instructor said that I had a really straight back so I was like kool! Lol but yeah your supposed to sit up like that :)

Ohh okay! That makes a lot more sense then!
Yeah I was taught by a lot of very casual old-school trail-type people, that might be a part of why I was always told that, haha
I feel like something looks off when I'm moving at a walk though...I don't know, it may just be my TBs big Englishy movement throwing me off, since I'd always ridden basically trail horses before him...
Well thanks guys!

The only thing I don't really like about your position (not that its bad at all) is the fact that your sitting on the cantle which may be the problem that you're seeing in yourself.

Pulling you seat forward and sit more in the middle of the saddle, no leaning against the cantle. I believe fixing this will fix the issue you see.

Do you see that I'm saying?

Yeah, I definitely see that. I'm wondering if that could actually just be a problem from my saddle, though, as I'm having a few issues with it lately...and when I try to scoot forward a little bit it just feels kind of wonky. Not sure what's going on there..
I need to take the time to see how things look when I ride my mom's horse in her saddle, I've been mostly riding him in the roundpen so I haven't been around the mirror much. I feel a lot more correct in that saddle, it's probably a better fit for me...I may need to get a different saddle sometime soon.

I'm guessing its the saddle then! What brand do you have? And what brand does your mom have?

I have a Wintec and my mom has an Abetta..I've always really liked Abettas, I may end up going with one of them in the end.
