Team Penning

Hi I'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone is interested in team penning. I started about a year ago and go just about every week. If you have not tried it yet you really should. It is so much fun and really addicting. I can't wait until tomorrow!! (penning every Sunday in the winter in an indoor arena)

I am interrested in that sport but I lack the riding skills (maybe) and friends to form a team. I don't know how or if my riding buddies would would to compete in that sport.

I've done team penning for three years with my gelding and we love it. He at first was super scared of the cows, but once he figured out chasing them was fun, he soon learned that team penning is super fun to do. He is super smart, by the first year I got him to the point I just pointed his nose at a cow and he will lock onto it. Its kinda amazing how horses love to chase things even though they are a prey animal haha.

That was the motivation for me bringing my mare T to a team penning practice session. "Fear of Cows"!

We had so much fun and got sooooooooo competitive and really did well that the gentleman in charge of the session (big time competitor in team penning) asked us to join him and his team for a competition the following weekend!

Really enjoyed the comradarie and "team work". If I was going to "compete" I would probably opt for team penning. It' s fun and my horse just loved it! Moving those cows was soooo much more fun than being chased by them!

BTW, am proud to say T is over her "fear of cows"!

My horse LOVES cows. We used to do team sorting, and where I am moving next month, they have team penning/sorting ranch versitility type things every week. I'm hoping I can either find a cheap trailer or get someone to come with me. I think it's a lot of fun :)
