Team Penning?

I am going to be going to my first team penning (or cow event for that matter) next tuesday. A place near here does open team penning practices and I am super excited to give it a go. Any suggestions or tips? My mare is pastured with cows so she has seen them, and is pretty unflappable about new stuff anyway, so I am not too worried about her, more about me!

Not sure what sort of tips you are looking for but in general if it is your first time listen to your teammates. And most importantly, sometimes slow is fast. Penning is a timed event but if you try to handle the cattle faster than you or your horse are ready for everything can fall apart in an instant.
Most importantly have fun.

Make sure to keep the other cows OUT. That was my first mistake my first time was I was more focused on penning the right cows and I almost forgot about the wrong cows. And if there are two cows, one right and one wrong, make sure you get in between them at whatever opening you can. Push your horses neck right through the middle an chase the right one.

And stay just at the cows hip. Any farher and the cow could turn and you might not be able to pick it back up in time.
