Western Reading & Sites

I have been researching both english and western styles of riding so much that my head may indeed explode.

BUT I find it so much easier to discover books and websites about english riding... not so much western... there were two books that I was looking at (Buying Your First Horse & Getting the Most Out of Your Lessons) and they each seem to favor english riding, and the western details seem kinda minimal... ? I mean, maybe there are 5 pictures with western riders and tack and all the other hundred pictures are english riders and tack. Seriously the only western pictures are perhaps of the tack itself and that's it. XD

It's actually starting to bug me! I just want to learn more about western riding!!! I was thinking about trying some english later, but I want to start out with western since my lessons will be on western trained horses and I plan on buying from somebody who trains her horses very well... in western. XD So I finally decided that I will stick with it for a while and now I can't get the information I want.

Sooooo, my questions are:

What books do you feel best describe/explain western style riding? (keep in mind that I like pictures! Hahaha! And I am a beginner!) Like a manual type thing. :)

What educational type websites do you know of that cover a lot of western riding topics?

I want to know anything and everything.

Hey, I ride western and do agree that there is a lot more information on english style then western. I really enjoy reading the magazine Horse & Rider. It is based on western style of riding. You can get many of the articles they publish on their website www.horseandrider.com As for books there are some teaching books by Cherry Hill. You can easily find her books on Chapters.com Her books are easy to read and written for any level of riding from beginner to advanced. I hope this helps. Have fun learning to ride.

I used to get really frustrated about this, lol. I have a huge bookshelf with over a hundred books on horse care, riding, health, etc. Not one of them caters to Western riding, it's pathetic!

I don't know of any books about western riding, but you might consider getting a subscription to Western Horseman magazine. They often have all kinds of good articles about riding, training, care, tack, etc.
