Do you have any videos?

The one that I use for barrel racing is a snaffle bit. I like it because it is very efective and easy on the horses. =) =)

Do you mean a grazing bit, like this?

If that's the case, it is correct that a bit like that is not ideal for barrel racing. Most people are going to use a direct rein when you turn the barrel, and a bit that is one solid piece like that is not going to communicate well to the horse because it is designed to be ridden with a neck rein.

The bit with the link you have posted is actually one of my favorite bits and currently what I use on my finished horse. I personally like a double-jointed mouthpiece because it gives you more freedom to give a single direct rein cue, and the shanks are short so it's on the mild side.

I used to run my barrel horse in a curb, and he did very well! Is there something in particular that your horse is doing that makes you think he needs a new bit? (like shaking his head, not giving, etc.?)
