Will She Make it Critique

This is me on my moms Paso Fino, Frost. She was my backup horse for that day, as my horse, who is currently trotting the pattern, had been injured and is still not ride-able. Frost had never seen the pattern before, in her life. This day was just a fun day full of games, but Frost got me thinking. Do you think, with training, she could be a 3D/4D barrel horse? (She is slow compared to my mare, who will most likely be a 2D mare). The lead change after the 3rd barrel was not planned, I don't know why she did it. Yes, I know we hugged the first barrel a little too tight, but I fixed it on the other two, but if you see any other problems feel free to point them out.

There's absolutely no way to tell how fast a horse will be when you just walk/trot the pattern. (BTW, I'm glad you were only walking/trotting because it is downright dangerous to lope a barrel pattern on grass. You're just asking a horse to slip around the barrel.)

Paso Fino's aren't exactly barrel horses. But if you enjoy, and she enjoys it, go for it.

But at this point in the game, it's just impossible to tell.

And you actually hugged all three barrels too tight, and turned too soon on all of them, and your horse had zero bend in her body. It'll take some work.

It is not enough to know how to ride; one must know how to fall.

Depends on what kind of shows your talking about to be perfectly honest. Small open shows and 4H shows, sure she can probably place somewhere. At bigger shows no, a gaited horse probably won't place against the quarter horses running.

Any horse i believe can participate in any discipline- it just takes time and proper training. She seemed like she'd be a little rusty for awhile but she looks happy though and if you want to give it a shot i say go for it! One thing that all barrel horses (and all horses) must have is the Heart and need to compete in it. If you have a horse that doesn't like its job it'll become a chore and not fun for anyone.

Maybe I'm sheltered but I have never seen a Paso Fino that was competitively successful at barrel racing.
