Shire horses are the tallest breed on average, however the current record holder is a Belgian. You get your freaks in every group lol
No different than dogs. The Irish Wolf Hound is the tallest breed on average and yet the current record holder is a Great Dane.
We saw someone at the gas station today.. She had an f650 truck. We were asking if you have to have a CDL to drive it lol. She mentioned that it's pretty useless, because you can't haul a horse trailer with it or anything. Of course, she has Clydes and Belgins :P Posted via Mobile Device
Biggest horse I've seen was 19hh. A friend owned a 19.1 at her riding centre. I saw a Shire at 18.2 - he was only FOUR at the time, so hadn't quite stopped growing!!
Biggest horse in England was a Shire who stood 20hh. There is a Clydesdale in Scotland who stands 19.2hh. Shires do have a reputation for being the tallest on average but its like others have said, it all depends on the individual horse. Average height of a 'heavy horse' in the UK is around 17.3hh
