Avian flu outbreak Lincoln County, TN

For the folks in southern Middle Tennessee and border states:

This isn't the same strain as in 2015. It is deadly to domestic chickens and turkeys.

Ugh, I hate reading this. Our region was spared last time, but there was a lot of anxious waiting because we are on a migratory flight path. I hope this year isn't as serious as the last, and that some of the changes put in place keep it from becoming as devastating.

I was reading an article on this late last week, more on the human side though. Apparently some mutations are happening that has both the WHO and CDC a bit concerned. If you don't want to read all the medical jargon skip down to the last paragraph.

There's been a problem with it in the UK for a while now, last I heard all poultry owners were being told to keep their flocks inside/away from wild birds which means that many have lost their 'free range' status

Ugh, hopefully it gets contained quickly. They banned any gatherings of poultry like shows or swaps in 2015 and into the summer of 2016 out here because of the avian flu, and that was hard for a lot of the show poultry folks.
