Goats!

I see there are already some threads about goats, but I thought I'd start a general one anyway.

I grew up with dairy goats - Nubians, Alpines, and eventually crosses of the two. We had some really awesome animals from great lines.

I've been thinking of getting back into goats for a few years now, but it's finally actually happening! I decided to go with Nigerian Dwarfs this time.

I have deposits down for 2 doelings and a buckling for next spring, all from different breeders. I sought out the best milking lines I could find in BC, and I'm pretty happy with what I found. Now I just have all fingers crossed that the pairings I picked out produce kids of the gender I want...

Who else is into goats? What breeds? Are there any other people with NDs?

I'd love to see pictures!

Congratulations! I have two neutered Nigerian dwarfs and I think they are just the best. My boys are just like dogs, and so handsome to boot. I think I have the prettiest goats in my whole town! So much personality. They are such kind animals, I can remember when I was very young being afraid of goats because every time I'd walk away, I'd get booted right in the *** and knocked into the dirt, lol. Not my guys! They've NEVER offered to chase, ram, bite or hit me.
We have to put a baby gate over the porch because when we let them out to graze they will just stand at the door looking in!

I have fantastic portraits of them on my other computer but for now these will have to do.

They're stunning! I'd love to see more pics when you get to your other computer!

Were they bottle fed babies?

We always bottle fed our kids when I was growing up, so they were total pets. I loved it. It seems like the ND breeders don't do so much bottle feeding :( So I think the kids I'm getting won't be bottle fed, but hopefully well handled. And I will definitely bottle feed the kids I produce.

My dad kept goats all through the years after we moved out, so he supplied me with milk and cheese and I got to go play with babies most every spring/summer, and take photos. He passed away this summer, very unexpectedly, and that was part of the reason I decided it was time to get my own goats.

These are some kids from the past few years at my dad's. NubianxAlpine crosses.
