@Blue , glad to hear Lana is recovering, and most importantly, wanting to eat and drink. I agree with giving her time and keeping her quiet and a little pampered. In my experience, if they're not going to pull through, they don't tend to linger very long. Hopeful that she continues to improve!

@Blue , so happy to hear she seems to be improving. I'd think (but I don't KNOW) that if she was going to die from stress that she'd have already been gone. Since she doesn't appear to have any open wounds, sounds like you got this one in the nick of time, she will probably be ok with time as long as there's nothing broken.

Thanks everybody! We just got home from the weekend and my friend took excellent care of everything. Lana tried to stand a couple times. She's not putting much weight on that leg, but she can move it and she tries. So that tells me that another week or so may do it.

Good morning everyone! I know I'm probably driving you all nuts with my questions and topics about Lana, but this is my first chicken injury and I'm a little out of my element.

This morning I took her outside for some fresh air. She immediately hobbled off to the area under the horse trailer. (her favorite spot) She stayed there for awhile and then wandered out. In the past she didn't even try to wander off, just mostly stayed wherever I put her.

I put out a little dish of scratch to try to get a good video and actually got 2 of them, but I get an "invalid" message every time I try to upload them. Any ideas? I don't have any trouble with photos, just videos.

Glad she's a little more mobile!

With video, I always upload to YouTube, copy the "share" link under the video, then come back to Horse Forum, click on the paper clip "link" icon, and paste the link from YouTube. If you delete the "s" from "https" it will embed your videos right in your post.

I haven't had time to sit down and upload to youtube yet. By the time I get that done this will be all over. Lol.

Part II of the Lana saga. She was doing so well I would take her outside during the day for fresh air. Then she was able to climb up the ramp to the roost area so I let her have some fun and comfort. I would let her sit out there for a few hours and bring her in when the real heat of the day set in. No sense in battling heat stress too, right?

Just now I went out to get her and a freakin' squirrel ran out the the coop! I have to leave the door open so the other girls can come and go. They spend the hot part of the day under the shrubs and then go in to lay then leave again.

Well a couple days ago I caught a squirrel trying to steal an egg and chased it away. Now the little bugger knows where to go! He/she got in there again and attacked my Lana! She's got a superficial bite mark on her head but she's just tired. An egg was broken and out of the nest box. Ugh! I feel like such a bad mom.

We have a new building ordered. One of those Weather King things. I already have fencing to fence it off with. Just texted husband and he's fit to be tied. He hates these squirrels anyway, but now they've disturbed his girls and there's gonna be [email protected]!! to pay.

I called about the new building. It's almost complete but needs to schedule delivery. I told them it's already a week overdue and they could get it done or come over here and start chasing squirrels themselves. They weren't amused. Well neither am I.

So, now poor Lana is sleeping comfortably in her cage in the front room. I have to go to work tomorrow so she's just going to have to stay in until this is over and I know she can defend herself. Gonna try that upload to youtube again

Yikes. I keep trying to figure this out. I've uploaded to youtube, but when I try to upload from youtube to HF I get an "invalid file" message. What am I doing wrong.

You don't upload it. Just copy and paste the URL into your reply. Then remove the "s" from the https part and submit your reply.

I may have given confusing advice because I'm realizing there are two "paper clip icons."

The one to paste a link into is the globe with the paperclip in front of it, not the plain paper clip to upload files.

Sorry if that led you astray!
