Well this is what mine does with furry things... Too bad I didn't have the phone on me when one caught a rat. I really think it just depends. Mine will sleep with or on the dogs and cat but will haul tail to the dog's back yard if a neighbor's dog comes over. To me that says they understand what a closed gate does for them. They also hide from things flying overhead. They get desensitized when hand raised but I find will listen to their elders when run together.

Lost two chickens to a weasel, had to make a more secure coop for them. Weasels make you miss raccoons.....

A neighbor fortified his chicken coop (one area inside the barn) with hardware cloth after a weasel invaded, and came back the next day to find more dead chickens.

Turned out he'd fenced the weasel inside with the chickens!

Pardon the horrid pics (my phone stinks and the chicks would...not...hold...still...), but look how big they've gotten!

No matter how much you think you know about horses, there will always be one that'll come along and teach you something new.

They're adorable! Lucky you!

I'm truly resisting the urge for more chicks while we have them at TSC. They're too cute, but I really don't want them until spring so I'm trying to stay strong.

we didn't really want these either but Mrs. Hen and Mr. Rooster had other ideas.

All I'm saying is that these better mostly be hens. Our original ones aren't laying well. They're only about 3 years old so they should still be laying something. Like we have to buy eggs again. I've given up. I wouldn't be surprised if they slowed production a bit, but a dead stop? Ugh.

Could it be the weather change?

No, unless it's too hot. They just randomly stop laying for months on end. I know others with chickens in the exact same weather, and they're fine. There's not a change, they just quit. It's a serious pain.
