Aubie’s Friday June 5th Conversation

Another week in the books already! We are close enough to half way thru the year to count. Seems like New Years was last week

Thought we could get talking early since I’m awake at “three in the morning”. Sounds like the old Jake from State Farm commercial, lol

Supper - we all love to eat, can we do this first, or should it be last to give everyone time to ponder

Hay - how is everyone’s supply? Is it up? Can you store a lot? Has the cost gone up from last year?

Covid19 - Our marching orders seem to be relaxing at different rates, even within each state. How is it where you live and do you have your sanity back, if it was ever in Covid19 question

Belmont Stakes is postponed from June 6th to June 20th, there will be no spectators, and the course has been shortened.

Do you watch the Triple Crown events? Has anyone ever been to one?

Trail riding and horse shows - are you back in the swing or is Covid19 still interfering.

New babies - baby anything. Any on your farm? All babies are cute. Fotos please

As always, this thread is wide open for other questions, thoughts, and comments. It seems everyone enjoys keeping the thread going all week.

Again, fotos are always welcome!

Hurricane season has arrived early:(. Two named storms in May; one is not too unusual but two were

Tropical Storm Cristobal is set to hit the Gulf Coast this weekend :(. Prayers and good thoughts to everyone in its path. Batten down the hatches and hunker down in a safe place:)

Morning all. Some thunder and lightning came with the rain yesterday and supposed to rain today and a little hotter also. Some things still are closed but are opening up more restaurants to inside eating. Wheeling Island Casio is opening up this morning with limited dining and gaming but it didn't say anything about the dog track. Mountaineer Park is already open. @aubie will like that. LOL.

Tomorrow is June 6th. Lots of veterans will not be going to Normandy this year as the covid has shut down most of the ceremonies. For some this will be their last time to remember and pay respect to their fellow comrades who are buried all across Europe. . 16 million Americans fought in the Second World War. With an average of 245 dying every day (calculated by the VA before the COVID-19 outbreak), it raises a sad and depressing question: when will the U.S. lose the last of its WWII veterans? The VA projects the last American veteran of WWII will be in 2043.

The last American veteran of the First World War, Frank Buckles, passed away in February 2011 aged 110.

My first time responding to a "Friday Night Conversation" thread!

For dinner today I'll be having Chicken Tortellini Rosa! Super stoked as it is from the restaurant where my sister works and it is absolutely AMAZING! Plus I am supporting a small business during the COVID times. I try to make it a Friday night ritual haha.

Hay supply is decent but need to start looking into stocking up for the year as soon as they're done cutting in my area. Not sure on the prices just yet, so far they seem around the same as last year.

I usually watch the Triple Crown races and I was sad to hear they were postponed but these times are rough so I understand. Did anyone hear that Arrogate passed away a few days ago? Only 7 years old such a shame as he was a STUNNING horse!

https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac...gate-dies-at-7

We've had some pretty decent storms the last few days resulting in loss of power, torrential rain, and downed limbs but nothing too crazy.

In other news! My trailer search has come to an END! I currently have an OLD steel 3H slant Bee trailer with a tiny dressing room. Upon my usual pre-show-season inspection I noticed that it has become quite unsafe (wall separating from the frame, I took it and had the bearings checked and they are worn and the spindles are bad which would require an axle to be replaced, and the floors are starting to get soft and I heard a crack the other day while I was powerwashing it(after I had made the decision to get a new one), among other issues) In other words, it is time to lay the old girl to rest.

I found a nice trailer in Ohio at a very reputable dealer and they are going to take my trailer as a trade(most likely to scrap I was VERY honest and up front that it was NOT horse safe) and I am going to finance the new one (new to me). It is a 3 horse slant load with a hay rack and LIVING QUARTERS! My first trailer with living quarters and I am SO excited! I recently bought a portable corral system and I have been thinking about a living quarters trailer because I'd like to start camping with the boys and now I'll be able to! I slept in my current trailer a few times but it's not insulated so you can imagine how chilly the nights got. The new trailer also has a hydraulic jack which I am stoked about as I spent the last 10 years cranking an 11,000lb trailer up and down haha!

I am leaving around 10pm tonight to start the long journey to Ohio (about 8-9 hours) and I am just hoping my current trailer makes it!

Happy Friday ALL!!! Whew I agree @walkinthewalk this year is flying by….

Hay! Lol I just picked up two rounds of orchard for $70 a piece, they are pretty heavy and look decent, horses are enjoying them. I think that’s a pretty good deal, usually I get fescue rounds at 40 and then supplement with orchard at upwards to $20 a bale at 50 pounds…. So I will see how these go.

I had to order new fly masks for all, the ones I have are old and coming apart, Chal is finally leaving his on. I think the issue was I left them on all the time and he didn’t like it so now I’m removing them at night time and putting them on first thing in the morning… so far so good! He lost is really nice one, I’m hoping I’ll find it when the round bale is gone…

No babies anything here but would love to see pics of babies!

My chickens love watermelon! So now horses and chickens will have to fight over it… not really watermelon is pretty cheap during the summer so I will get one for each.

Dinner is up in the air, going to try to hit the lake after work so it will be something simple.

Things are getting back to normal here, there is or was a curfew but that’s over now…..

Love to watch the road to the Triple Crown… really anything horsie… yes I’m still that horse crazed girl..

Not looking forward to this hurricane season…

@RegalCharm - thanks for the reminder... wow on the daily stats.

@Phantomcolt18 - I got my trailer in Ohio! Yep about an 8 hour drive but worth it as I love my trailer!

@Phantomcolt18 Have a safe trip to the Buckeye State. You coming to the southern part of the state? Using I-77 to Mariette. Or other route?

State Police in WV. sometimes use unmarked patrol cars but they have a state license plate. And some places in Ohio run speed traps and all the state troopers cars are a silver gray color with the winged tire on the doors. Dodge Chargers or SUVs. Sheriffs cruisers are all black with yellow markings (various models of vehicles) Local cops can be white, blue, black etc. Radar detectors and police scanners are legal in Ohio but not in WV.

Also went grocery shopping yesterday and food prices Are way UP. 70/30% hamburger was $5. a lb. News says over 4% increase for just about everything. And gas was back up to $2 per gallon. It was down to $1.03 /gal.
at one time. Gasoline and diesel prices vary by location here also.

Thank you! Northern actually, closer to Birmingham! I'm ridiculously excited and we're going to stop to see Lake Erie just to say we did it haha. Thinking I-76 and I-80 through PA to get there!

Dinner-Not sure yet, maybe I can convince DH into takeout from the new restaurant nearby

COVID-MN is still pretty limited. Monday restaurants were allowed to open for outside only dining so all of the places without patios were given picnic tables by the city and allowed to use their parking lots which is pretty interesting to watch. Retail is at 50%, no movie theatres/bowling alleys. Since all the riots/protesting the governor hasn't made any new announcements about when the next phase of reopening will be... Camping just reopened this week as well so I'm hoping to get out in the next few weeks!

Babies-We got a quarantine puppy! She's a little bigger than this now but it's the only picture I have on my work computer. This is Riley, she's a (now) 12 week old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd cross. She's tons of fun and loves life on the farm.

Hay-Have one round bale left but they're on all pasture now so that's just a spare. Have 60 ish squares in the loft too for camping. I'm hoping we get a break on hay prices this year, they were bad last year with all of the rain but so far this year has been awesome weather wise. Gotta call our guy and get our order in, first cut is already going on!
