New Season Friday Night Conversations

Hello everyone. Just like tv shows Friday night conversations is back for a new season. Had to wait until it felt like fall. Also holiday topics will return. I know some get repetitive but will try to come up with new topics as well. And sometimes things do better one year than others. Holiday food recipes/ food for example.

For those unfamiliar, anything is welcome. The first post just kicks it off.

How was everyone's summer? It was hot here especially September. No rain so no fall color in the trees here really. Just brown and falling off. How is it where you are? I think some of you already in full blown winter.

Usually there are some kick off questions. Mostly random nonsense. Like has anyone had a York Peppermint Patty lately? I remember the commercials where they said it takes them to cold places and whatnot. Had a I guess Halloween size the other day. Something has changed. No cool or anything just a mouthful of meh.

What is for supper usually is included. For me fried chicken fingers. You?

Speaking of did anyone get the Popeyes chicken sandwich before they ran out? Thoughts?

What is your favorite chicken sandwich?

Aubie tip of the week. If you see it in stores in your area, Stubbs chicken marinade is delicious. Especially on the grill.

What is going on with you?/Plans for weekend?

That should get started. Fire away.

Busy weekend ahead....

Saturday, I am visiting my best friend an hour away. He had an aneurysm burst when we were traveling internationally a year ago, and is now disabled. I haven't since June, because I work so much it's hard to get out there. I am dreading it. I've experienced a lot of death, illness etc in my life and it makes me.... anxious. It drains me horribly and even though I want to be a better friend, I can't deal with visiting him. When he was closer, I visited him once a week and dealt with the problems it caused me, but being so far away... it's hard. Anyway, I will be visiting him for lunch. After, I need to drop off a load of products (I am an artist) with a store that consigns my goods. Then in the late afternoon I have someone coming over who will be pet sitting for us while we are on our honeymoon next week. Need to show her the ropes.

Sunday, I am working at an event most of the day. I am also a face painter, so I usually have events on the weekend. In the evening, we are going to see X Ambassadors in concert.

I need to figure out our food situation for the weekend/next week but I am not sure when I will squeeze in grocery shopping....

All the trees are dying here, too. But a cold front came through and we got a little rain. Yesterday it was 96. Right now it's 46 and still falling. All the sudden I'm thinking about blanketing???

I had some ingredients I was going to use to make dinner, but I found some chili in the freezer and I will make that instead. I also found cheese in the fridge! No fritos, but chili and cheese is good enough for me right now.

My daughter has a four-day weekend, which is a nice break. She also has a "homework hiatus" for the weekend, although she was still working on older homework today, and she has a big ongoing project that she has to work on. Regardless, it means we can spend more time with the horses this weekend. We're doing a day-long fun clinic with them on Monday. It will be our first clinic!

@aubie , glad to see this thread back again!

@WildestDandelion - so sorry to hear about your friend! I know that must be incredibly tough, but I imagine your friend really enjoys your visits?

It is our Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend. I do not have any plans though - part of my family is away working. So perhaps b/f & I might do a chicken, but I didn't even think to buy a turkey.

I have the equine dentist coming out to work on all the horses tomorrow - so that should take up a good portion of the afternoon. I have tentative plans to go riding on Sunday, but our weather is a little nuts right now, so those plans may change. We have been getting winter weather - and it hasn't warmed up enough for the snow to melt.

Other than that, likely get a mileage run of my own in as I have a half marathon in a couple weeks. Tonight I will probably get the truck into the shop and up on jack stands - it is time to do the winter maintenance - oil change, fuel filters, tire rotation, etc.

I have no clue what is for dinner - maybe a sammich. We had pizza last night b/c i was too lazy to cook.

Summer was BUSY. Finally got a chance to breathe and stay at home for a weekend or two. Weather is warm and WINDY. Fire season is in full effect; my friend who lives near Sylmar called last night at 10 pm saying she got evacuated as a fire literally sprang up w/out notice and exploded. She was only able to get her self and cats and leave. Talked with her this morning and she is fine, but is not able to get back in her place yet. She and a neighbor stayed in a hotel overnight. Fire is raging to the west of her but I think they are still using where she lives as a staging area.

Hoping to go up and see Matt work with Lilly and ride Scarlett. Other than that, getting things ready for winter - need to do more weed whacking (had the entire property cleared and we got rain - now it looks like I did nothing. ) Need to secure some tarps on the hay shed and Pi's shelter. Need to CLEAN my house! And need to ride Pi. We have a ranch horse show (Matt & Scarlett are also going) on the 26th.

He definitely does enjoy those visits. he can't read or write anymore, and has very little short term memory. We send each other videos every day, but it's not the same. You can't have a real conversation with him, he just doesn't have the capacity

We will probably do pizza tonight too, we usually do on friday nights. I like leaving one or two week nights for easy meals like sandwiches.

Hey Everyone!!

Summer was great! Pretty warm and right now while it's cool it has been soooo dry. My pasture, yard and everything else is BROWN. Supposed to get rain Sunday, I really hope we do.

Supper tonight is Sushi, a friends hubby is out of town on a yearly fishing trip so we try to spend time together, not that we don't when he's around it's just we go places he doesn't usually want to. So after dinner we will go to the local bar to listen to a live band. Try not to get into too much trouble.

I wanted to try the Popeye's chicken sandwich but there is not one near me, don't eat out much but the last chicken sandwich I had was from Chik-Fil-A and it was pretty good, but that's been a while.

For this weekend hoping to get a ride in as it's been a while. Possibly clean the house(bleh!) and catch up on work.

Well, summer for the UK has been mostly dry. Good Indian summer bit the last two weeks it has been stormy and wet.

I had a right Royal heavenly rinsing out with the dogs this morning. It wasn't that it was raining so much as the force the wind drove the rain into me.

Every Friday I pick up my 93 year old Aunt and take her to the hairdressers, we then go to have fish and chips at a nearby cafe, we even have a pudding, today it was a very yummy lemon meringue pie with cream. Naughty but so good.

I then drove to a farm store where I purchased some trellis fencing and some stakes. I have to fence off a metre of my garden away from the main house, which we are selling beginning of November.

This is the house I grew up in, we have planning permission to make it into three flats (apartments) but being an old building it has drained the family of money. So, we decided to sell. It is up for auction.

Part of the planning agreement is that the basement flat has to have a metre of ground as a fire escape.

My nephew just called me to say that he would come and drive the posts in for me. My back will not allow me to wield a heavy fencing hammer anymore.

It is blowing a hooley hear, not raining but certainly not a night to be out in.

Hunkered down and will be off to bed in an hour. Tomorrow I collect scrap meat from my butcher for the dogs. It takes a bit of sorting through. Bones and fat I take down to the promenade and throw into the sea feeding the fishes and crabs. Nothing illegal.
