Notre Dame is on fire. My heart is breaking.
Oh, France...

Wow, terrible. My thoughts are with the people working to put it out and everyone else affected by this.

Heart breaking to see the smoke rising over the city. So much history going up in smoke. They think that it may be due to restoration work. It's not the first to be damaged through fire during restoration. I hope everyone stays safe.

I was horrified to hear about this. It’s truly a profound tragedy. For the world, but oh, the French. I am just overwhelmed.

What? OMG. That's just terrible.

I don't even check my news feed during the day when I'm working, all I do is check HF. I wouldn't even know about this otherwise. Really sad.

Terribly sad...such a loss as it can never be duplicated...
Rebuilt maybe, but the "what is was and meant" ...no.
I pray all got out in time...

Terrible for Paris, terrible for France, and terrible for the world too...

My parents took me there one summer. I was so mad at them because I had to miss a riding lesson to go. I'm glad I went now. It was spectacular.

It makes me really sad that it happened but the timing of it... I just have a hard time believing it was an accident. I feel like there might be breaking news at some point but we will see...

if you have ever watched "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" some of the movie was filmed there. I am sure it will be rebuilt but all the original construction material is lost.

It's a sad day. I was in tears watching this great monument built almost a thousand years ago go down in flames in a matter of hours. My heart breaks for Paris, my favorite city in the world, but I'm grateful I got to see Notre Dame. Sad that my children never will, or at least not what I saw. It looks like the stone fašade is intact, so they may keep that and try to rebuild, but obviously, you cannot replace it.

I hope they got most of the art out, but the bas-relief sculpted interior is irreplaceable and cannot be simply carried out. The city will never look the same.
