And along with everything else this year will be a blue full moon. Of course it will.

Blue Moon , two full moons in the same month.

A Halloween Full Moon is Rare last one was 76 years ago.
On average, we see one about every 18 to 19 years. As a matter of fact, there will only be six Halloween full moons in the 21st century. ... After that, there will only be three more Halloween full moons before the year 2100. Those October 31st full moons will occur in 2058, 2077 and 2096.

How is everyone? I hope those in the wild path of the hurricane this week got little damage.

Your plans for Halloween? Tick or treat or not?

How bout supper?. With the rapid cooling of we got last night, maybe some chili. May save that for tomorrow.

As always anything and everything welcome. If new please join in. These are just kick of questions. You can add to it with what's on your mind.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween used to be a huge holiday for me - LOVE it! As I've grown older and moved out to the boonies, I participated less in it. But still love the imagery. No plans; will go up to Matt's for a lesson later in the afternoon tomorrow. Then snuggle in for a good scary movie. Not a fan of the slasher movies, but love ghost and "thinking" horror movies, LOL. What kind of Halloween movies does everyone like? I am also enjoying the series "Eli Roth's History of Horror" ...

Would love to see everyone's current or past Halloween costumes ... Always find it fun to see what people pick and why.

Chili sounds good @aubie. I'm not sure what I'll do. I had Trader Joe's Lamb Vindaloo last night - it's super spicy, but super good; although the spicy tends to stay with me a little bit. Looking for something a little bland tonight, I think, LOL ...

Happy Friday, everyone!

I am doing alright today, definitely looking forward to the weekend (and Halloween, my favorite holiday!). I do not Trick'or'Treat any longer, and will not be with my siblings this Halloween, so no Trick'or'Treating this year, but I will be passing out candy with my SO and his mom. I do, however, dress up every single year, and this year I'm being Jamie from The Haunting of Bly Manor. I attached a picture of her outfit I will be wearing. Last night I darkened my hair to better match, today I will be cutting some bangs in, and tonight I will be sleeping in curlers to get her beautiful curls. I take Halloween costumes pretty seriously!

I have zero plans for dinner yet - we are heading to my SO's Mom and Dad's house tonight, so I figure we will either have takeout or maybe something easy like a sandwich.

Next week, however, I will begin recipe testing for my friends-giving and Thanksgiving, so hopefully something tasty comes out of that. I am between making my sweet potato, black bean, turkey chili (recipe in last weeks thread) or Thanksgiving pasties for friends-giving. I'm leaning towards the pasties, but that requires learning how to make rough puff pastry. As for dessert, SO wants me to go down the cheesecake route, and I'd really like to make a goat cheese cheesecake if I do go that way. I found a pumpkin bread recipe I'd also like to try.

And for my US friends, please get out and vote next week if you haven't already! I am a poll worker this year, so I especially want to encourage everyone to make their voice heard on Tuesday, no matter your views, everyone deserves to be heard. Your vote matters! Please do your best to keep others and yourself safe this election, mask up, and sanitize your hands before and after voting. Have a great and safe election day (and do not make this thread political!)!

I was a poll worker the last two years. I voted early this year for the first time. It was SO much easier than voting on election day! No crowds, no line, no hassle. I'd urge everyone who can, to do it. Why wait?

Also, we're still eating leftovers from the giant pot of chili I made, but next is tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. I have a really simple but delicious recipe for tomato soup. It's my own recipe, so some of the quantities are "suit yourself" amounts.

2-3 pounds grape tomatoes
olive oil
1 bottle strained tomatoes
basil: lots, like 1-2 cups
herbs de provence
cream (not much, like maybe half a cup at most)
butter (only a couple of tbs, and only if using shallot)
shallot (optional) (I used about 2-3 garlic cloves' worth), minced

1. Cut tomatoes in half; mix with O.O. and herb de provence and roast and 425 until soft and a little browned
2. Meanwhile, saute shallot (if using) in butter
3. Add roasted tomatoes (and juices) and strained tomato juice to pot; cook on med-low maybe 10 minutes, just to mix
4. Add basil, chiffonaded
5. puree (to taste)
6. add cream and black pepper to taste

Happy Halloween! No trick-or-treating here due to covid. Fortunately my nephew is too young to know what he's missing (he turns 1yr on Tuesday).

I wish I could do a fun baking thing! But I'm probably going to spend the day working on my thesis. I want to get three more pages written by the end of the month. Maybe I'll at least listen to some spooky music or put Nightmare Before Christmas on in the background.

We have snow for Halloween this year!

No trick-or-treaters come out here anyway, so no big deal. But I did still buy two bags of 100 Grand Halloween candy at the grocery store yesterday- my favorite! My lovely husband really likes the old school black and white Halloween movies, so we've recently watched things like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and several other terrible films whose titles I don't remember but generally include a crafty professor, a corrupt rich old man, a haunted mansion, and several women who dash around the mansion screaming :icon_rolleyes:

It's supposed to be unseasonably cold tonight- going down to 17*F/-8*C, so we'll light a fire and then have something hearty for dinner. I'm thinking baked ziti, garlic bread, and roasted brussels sprouts.

I love the old B&W horror movies too!! I also love the old terrible 50's & 60's horror movies. Our local theater (my town is small and we have ONE theater, although it does have a couple of screens), usually has a double feature of two old horrible movies for Halloween. It's like $7 to go and you get free all you eat/drink popcorn/sodas. It's a hoot. Of course, this year, they will not have it - they haven't yet reopened from Covid closure.

I post every year because Sleepy Hollow is a favorite or mine.
This has always been one of my favorites! Thanks for posting.

Hi Aubie! And everyone. Early afternoon here. Still working, but taking a bit of a lunch break.

DD baked a Halloween cake last night. Sort of a big crumpled mess, but she slapped on orange frosting and sprinkles and it just looks spooky. That reminds me, we haven't carved our pumpkins. Tonight or tomorrow I guess. Kids are too old for Trick or Treating, though they wore home-made costumes to school. We only get a handful of kids here, so we'll buy a box of chips and leave them out on the front door in case some come.

It's been very cool for the last week or so here. I should have planted my garlic in mid-October, but usually I wait until late October. I hear our November is going to be unusually mild, so I'll just plant it then, once we're out of this cold spell. Possibility of snow on Sunday. That would be our first, but it may not materialize, and if it does, it probably won't stick. Ground is not yet frozen - really, our fall has been quite mild.

Well, best go get supper started as DD wants marinated tempeh tonight, and my carnivores will want meat. Have I mentioned I hate cooking?

Happy Halloween all!

Happy Halloween/Samhuinn everyone!

Our government has asked that everyone avoids Guising this year, not that there are many children nearby. I was given carved turnips which has saved me trying to make them and they are out the front but otherwise the rest of the decorations are in the house and back garden.

Any traditional events have gone online and my friends are not planning anything, not that we'd be allowed to mix.

It will be a day (and weekend) for pottering around the house. I'll probably make traditional stovies (stew), cranachan and bannocks. I'm not a fan of horror movies though and will avoid them unless I'm with someone.

Tonight's tea will be something vegetarian and easy, probably a stir-fry as I don't feel like cooking.

It's been calm and sunny today and around 10C/50F, which was a surprise after a very wet and windy night.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

It has been a difficult time no doubt.

Breeders Cup is next weekend as scheduled. It's at Keeneland this year. I hope some watch, not just for the horses. Keeneland in the fall is about as beautiful as it gets.

And some good news. Just announced today the Kentucky Derby will return to its normal time, first Saturday in May , next year. The plan so far is 40-50 percent capacity.

Happy Friday all! I like Halloween! And cool on the full moon, spooky. I like all horror movies, gruesome and what not, even the black and white ones. I live in a remote area but it is a development and one of the neighbors asked about bringing his little ones around and it had good turnout so I’m doing MINOR decorating, used to go all out. Will need to get candy… need to get something I don’t like! Else I would eat all that’s left.

Not sure tonight on dinner, probably leftovers... I made some braised chicken thighs with caramelized onions and mushrooms, it was good! A neighbor invited me over tomorrow after the Trick or Treaters for chili and drinks by a bon fire so plan on doing that, will take cornbread for the chili. Then come home and turn on a scary movie and scare myself!

Also I got Boo-ed, I never heard of it but I guess it’s a thing. I went into my barn and on my little fridge was a basket with all kinds of cute stuff, candy and wine. Whoever did it knows I like my wine! Lol I was supposed to pass it on but didn’t get around to it due to work. I might be able to do it tomorrow, I don’t think it’s too late, just got to think about what to get.

Everyone with snow already wow! Here it’s been beautiful! Love this time of year!
@aubie – Thanks for bringing this back! Makes it more of a community….

Happy Friday, everyone! :D

Got some halloween candy today (thankfully) at BJ's, a huge bag...last year I only got a handful of kids but oh well, more for me! We shall see.

I didn't carve a pumpkin this year unfortunately but there's always next year. :)

Really cold & rainy today, in the 40's! Hope everyone has a happy Halloween!

It was so good to have some sunshine today! Had an errand to do in town so stopped at Arby's and had a turkey club. Folded some laundry, did regular horse chores plus moved a bag of feed over to the mini's barn. Hubs had himself some bacon laid out when I got home from town so I fried that for his supper and that was my day.

Tomorrow our hay guy is delivering our square bales. It's been sitting in his barn since July so no worries about it burning down the barn. That's the only thing on the agenda for the weekend.

Tonight watched a countdown of the 13 scariest movies. The Exorcist ended up being #1. Good movie that I didn't think was all that scary so I wouldn't have ranked it first. Jaws didn't even make the list or the honorable mention section and while I've seen it enough times it no longer scares the bejesus out of me, it sure did when it first came out and I saw it on the big screen.

When you brought up the Breeders Cup it brought back good memories. We went to Churchill Downs a couple years back with our oldest daughter and her family. It was the day the Preakness was ran and was shown after a day of live races at Churchill on the big screen . We all had a great day with an open buffet all during the races. The day was capped when Justify won and my wife was elated.
Halloween won't be much here but, we'll still have a good supper. Tonight will be chicken stir fry. With any luck I'll ride this afternoon although it will be very windy. They are calling for 40 MPH gusts out of the Northwest.

#19 ·
We bought a bunch of candy but we have not had trick or treaters the 15 years we've lived here so I don't expect any tonight! LOL. I guess we'll have to eat all the candy... must be why we bought our favorites :)

I see on social media that tons of people are going to halloween parties. I'm too lazy to got to a party. I usually don't decorate for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving but this year... this 2020 Jumanji year... I'm starting TOMORROW! LOL....

Sister and the kids were at the ranch when I got home from work so spent a few hours with them before they left for home. We don't do Halloween so just another weekend for us.

Took the Shark(black mouth cur pup) to the vet this morning for his second round of shots. He's doubled in size in the past few weeks. Been 11 years since I've had a puppy and I forgot how quickly they grow.

Did meal prep for the week this evening. Made some sautéed chicken for salads, a big pot of chili and then spinach and pasta with a bit of chicken cream sauce for supper tonight. Will probably make a batch of quinoa tomorrow after work as well.

@boots, -13 — alrighty then —. I will stop fussing about the low of 28(F) we will see Sunday night, low 30’s a few nights following that, lollol

No Halloween here. Actually there are only 18 houses on this one lane road that looks straight out of Deliverance, so nobody brings their children up this road, lollol

I do however have a big bag of Brachs candy corn. I love ❤ candy corn. I tried some peanut butter with a piece and that tasted good enough that I might make scratch peanut butter cookies, chop up some candy corn and mix them into the cookie dough; “might” being the operative, lollol.

The Curse of Oak Island is coming back in November, on the History channel. They just started showing reruns of Skinwalker Ranch, so I hope there will be a season two of that as well.

I like the 1930’s scary movies — Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney as the wolf man.

I liked House on a Haunted Hill with Vincent Price; I think it was 1960’s?

Christmas moves are on both Hallmark channels and Lifetime. When there’s nothing decent anywhere else and I’ve grown weary of the weather channels, I can at least turn these on, lollol

I don’t follow horse racing but I sure am glad to hear their schedules are getting back to normal. Hopefully that means the Iroquois Steeplechase, just outside Nashville, will be held in 2021. The ladies go all out with custom hats, the same as the ladies do for the Kentucky Derby; the Nashville stations always give time to those hats:):)

Supper last night was hamburgers on the grill, cooked by DH annnnnd ————- green bean casserole, made by yours truly, lollollol. I’m sorry but I was hungry for it, lollol. Tonight was left over green bean casserole for me and DH added steak from the grill to his plate.

Thursday was spent cutting trees off the drive so once again we could get out. Instead of days without, power was restored before 24 hours were up. My favorite meme for the week was one about Zeta getting ticketed for speeding in Golden Meadows. Any from the region or that have traveled through will understand the humor. She was in Atlanta before breakfast. At this point there are no leaves for a green carpet if another shows up. Ready to put the chainsaws away until this is all over with then perhaps will have time to clear the fence line and put in new instead of patching the patches. Horses are tired of their temporary pasture and having the cows over.

Cooking hasn't happened. Turned all that over to my brother. Show Saturday and family event Sunday. He did a wonderful job with the briskets and rest of the sides. My mother wasn't able to travel but she sent dessert with another brother. It wasn't homemade as usual but in these times just thankful for family and friends determined to make the best.

The time change may prove to be too much for these eyes. Will see if adjustments made can be enough to keep me driving at night one more year. As it is I've already cut out all but the necessary and my child has taken the wheel when we go out at night.

I do have a gumbo base in the freezer and chili as well so not much that needs anything more than thawing and addition of a few items. Will have the brisket too that will be pulled and sauced for sandwiches. Child has pretty much stepped up and handles that too several nights a week.

So glad to see a return of the Friday Night Convos eventhough I rarely make it in until Monday. I love reading about everyone's going ons. There are no boundaries on community.

@QtrBel I’m glad you got things cleaned up and hopefully you won’t have to do this again.

I’m not familiar with the area where Zeta got the speeding ticket but how neat somebody saw some humor in it:):)

I’m now at the barn by 6:20 AM. Rusty and Joker pitched the memo bout time change and so did the dogs. The dogs are tap-dancing their toenails on the hard floor to go outside at 4:30 AM, so I might as well get up and get moving, after letting them out.

@aubie, You and Remington have my sympathy & empathy:)

Yesterday (Sunday) DH went into work for an hour so he could do his month end paper work uninterrupted. He stopped at Publix on the way home, so I had him bring me one of their new turkey/bacon/cranberry subs

That was the best ever!!!! I am not a big cranberry fan but that sub was the best thing to come down the sub sandwich pike in a good long while. It was cheap, too. They use Boarshead meat and a foot long sub was still $6. I ate half yesterday, half for lunch today. What a deal.

DH finished all the bush hogging yesterday. He’s had to jump the farm tractor the last two times as the battery is 4+ years old and no longer willing to start on its own. He wants to wait until spring to buy a new one. The farm tractor doesn’t get used for anything else, so it can sit without a battery until spring.

Anyone who likes Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck, I watched the 1982 movie “Shadow Riders” for the umpteenth time yesterday. It’s a western, set just when the Civil War ends. Two brothers come home, from fighting on opposite sides, to find their sisters & one brother’s sweetheart kidnapped and on their way to Mexico to be sold into prostitution.

As with anything Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck do, one has to watch facial expressions to see some of the talking. There is some humor in the story and it has a happy ending.

You just can’t beat those two, together, in a western:love:

I agree, I just watched "Sabre river" and am currently watching " The Sackets" ( whew, 4 1/2 hours long) but I agree it's hard to beat those two as cowboys. As an add Ben Johnson is in the Sackets too. He is another real cowboy.

@ walkinthewalk I love green bean casserole… could eat that and only that all the time! Lol

For Halloween had the two families in my neighborhood that had young kids come by, it was so fun! The costumes were so cute! They were so appreciative for us doing this…. And they thought my decorations were pretty cool…. So a good Halloween night. Then went to my neighbors for chili and drinks and had a good evening.

The moon was beautiful!!

Sorry but I'm on the opposite of the time change from everyone. This morning I enjoyed being able to do my chores before work in the light.... but yeah the first few days I'm always like it feels later than it actually is!

#26 ·
@aubie - Poor Remington! The clock change messed with me as well but I'm with @lb27312, I prefer the light in the morning. Green Bean casserole? Vegetarian or a mix?

No guisers over Halloween although some families must have had their own parties. It was extremely windy and the next morning there were a number of escaped plastic pumpkins, streamers and ghostly looking white sheets flying around!

@.

Green Bean casserole? Vegetarian or a mix?
!

Vegetarian.

I binge-watched reruns of the Curse of Oak Island last night, then I went to sleep - which lasted until 3:00 AM and that was the end of sleepy time:shock::shock:

Oak Island Mystery is having a two hour premier Monday or Tuesday this coming week on the History Channel. YAY!!!!!

I think actor William Shatner has joined the crew as a narrator, but I’m not sure.

I am so tired of the guy who ends every statement with a question mark, but not tired enough to stop watching the series, lollol

No worms in the horse manure, but it was only 24 hours when I cleaned stalls this morning.

I gave DH strict orders, for a few days, to not let the dogs go digging in the shavings for any of their favorite dessert I might have missed.

I don’t need to risk a dog getting sick from horse wormer. Probably nothing to worry about with the Catahoula/Pit Bull or the Rottweiler but still ——-

It has been terrific riding weather in my area — this is when I miss not being able to ride:frown_color:

I know a lot of folks work but I still hope anyone who is enjoying great weather is able to get out and smell the roses for a few hours:cool::cool:

#30 ·
@walkinthewalk I got out yesterday and rode for an hour and a half. I'll get out tomorrow too for a couple hours. The temperatures here have been in the low 70's and windy. That's about 15-20* warmer than it should be, really got a lather up yesterday as Ki has a pretty good winter coat going. I may trailer her to a neighbors place tomorrow and check on their cows. The change of pace will be good for her.
