Salmon Select Sale

Is anybody going to the Salmon Select Sale this year? I was thinking about going but I haven't looked through the catalog yet. I will give the catalog a going through and if there are enough horses that I would consider bidding on I will go. So, I won't know for sure for at least a few days yet. I was just curious to know if anyone here was already planning on going.

Here is a link to the Salmon Select site if you aren't familiar with it but are curious: https://salmonselectsale.com/

I know that RMO Horses out of Utah is taking a few to sell. They sell amazing horses. That's where my Cedar came from, and I count my lucky stars every day that I came home with him. Luck was on my side at the ranch horse sale I went to... the fancy rope horses and catty little working cow horses were selling high and fast, but no one was bidding high for a good using horse like Cedar.

They sure do sell some impressive ranch horses.

RMO had the highest selling horse last year at the Salmon Select sale. It went for $27,000 USD. They always bring some really amazing horses to the sale each year. They have been sellers at the sale since 2011. I would love to have one of their horses someday. They put up some pretty amazing video of their horses as well. A lot of fun to watch.

I seriously say a little prayer of thanks every time I ride my boy. My budget and high bid were under their reserve. When the auctioneer turned to them and asked, "Will you sell your good horse for that price?" I almost cried when they said yes. I had no idea what their horses went for at the time. I try to put a good word in for them wherever I can because I sure love my Cedar!

They really make solid horses.

I have been to Salmon, not the sales but stayed just outside there with friends!

I actually absailed from a bridge into the nearly dry Salmon River one very hot July day.

I didn't realize you had got your horse like that for under their reserve. Talk about a once in a lifetime deal! That was super nice of them to do that. I don't know what you you got yours for but they usually get at least $10,000 for their horses and it seems to go up from there.

Most of the time I go just to watch the competitions. I didn't even bid last year. Not sure if I will bid or not this year. It will depend on what I see there if I go and how well the horses I am interested in do in the competitions.

Some good looking horses . I would buy some if I were to hit the lottery between now and then.

I haven't been to the Salmon sale for 15 or 20 years. When I had my stud and a little band of mares I marketed some of my horses through some of the 'premier' sales in the west. I considered Salmon, along with Red Bluff and Winnemucca, as the best sales around. I too liked watching (and competing in) the contests. If you know what to look for, it really gives you a chance to evaluate a horse.
