Just a heads up to everyone...got a SSA scam/fake call today saying I would have legal proceedings charged to me...be on alert and report it to oig.ssa.gov if you get one...they DO ask for your SSN! I hung up and immediately googled the contact info for SSA...nowhere near the same Texas (India, really) number that came up on my phone. Heavily accented woman identified herself as "Officer" Patricia Woods...RIGHT...NOT!...hang up.

DH has already been threatened, lollol. We donít live far from our local SS office, walking in and talking to someone is always an option if these people get too aggressive.

I donít answer my phone but I get repeated voice mails for my car being out of warranty and this will be my last call, lollol

Iíve been threatened with going to jail for not showing up for jury duty ó a few weeks after I finished my stint on jury duty.

Lately Iíve been getting political text messages, I never signed up for, regarding certain candidates that I donít even like.

The scams never end, so this thread really is a good idea to keep everyone aware:)

And donít forget about the fake e-mails from Amazon wanting to update your account:)

I almost love getting calls like these because I really enjoy messing with the people on the other end.

Thanks for the heads up!

My cousin answered the phone to a scammer, when the scammer asked how she was cousin's burst into tears, said I'm having a terrible day, just found out my husband of thirty years has been having an affair for the last ten years - and then proceed to rattle on so fast that the scammer couldn't get a word in and hung up!

The funniest one that I got was the scammers were with IRS. It was a voicemail as I rarely answer the phone to a number that I don't know. They said that a warrant was out for my arrest. They also said that myself and my home were under surveillance and that If I didn't call to straighten this out, I would be arrested. My first thought was, If there is a warrant out for my arrest and they know where I am, I would already be sitting in a jail cell WITHOUT my phone.

The IRS scammers have 'won' with several people. You can bet that these people are honest and it puts the fear of God into them at the thought they have misfiled taxes.

The less said, no information given, the better.
Voice recordings are being used to access other personal accounts from various places as once a smattering of your voice and words are compiled, they can make no become yes please very easily...
Be very careful and if you can report to the true authorities.

Thought federal law was passed that now allows our communications company to put a stop to as much as possible...it would be to this business that my first grievance call would be made besides SS office to report.

I get gleeful when I get these calls. I can make a scam caller or the Indian Pharmacy hang up on ME.

I always act like I'd been put on hold by them (Or someone else with their 'group' or 'company') and was waiting on the refund department. When they respond very confused, I insist: Yeah... no you put me on hold, remember? I was holding for the refund (or returns) department.

I'm always super cheerful and polite with them. They will hang up on me... and usually I don't get any more calls from them for a while (This is at the office on the landline. On my cell if I don't recognize the number, I don't waste time answering it. I just shoot that number a text saying I'm sorry, very busy, please text me back your name and I will call you ASAP.) Its rarely a 'real' person, but I do that anyway because I've had mini storage customers and tack shop customers call me from unfamiliar numbers in the past and I don't want to NOT talk to them.

My dad got one of those on the computer. They, fbi, had locked it , using to camera to see him and if he did go to Walgreens and get a gift card they would come get him.

PITA to get it off though.

This works.

Write down number they say to call. Dial it from your home phone and cell phone (or two cell phones) at exactly the same time.

Flip one phone around so they're speaker to microphone.

Two agents will answer and talk to each other. When I did it recently they gave each other fake information. They talked back and forth for 15 minutes then cussed each other out in English and Hindi.

The most difficult part is trying not to laugh.

After I hung up my wife was on the floor laughing.
