Two and a Half Mysteries...

Where to begin...?

The first mystery could really be re-characterized as a rant...

My sister just got a horse, a beautiful half shire mare who suits her perfectly. She paid about $1,000.00 for her. Her DH is fine with it, even encouraged her saying he loved her smile when she came home from the barn, so all is well there. MY DH is not so fine with it, because of the time and money involved, neither of which my sister has in abundance, being a school librarian. He knows that it is none of his business, but he goes on and on about it...

Anyway. Sister has a horse, sister's DH just bought a sports car. WAY more expensive than a horse. Sister is fine with it, MY DH is also fine with it. "Wow, that is so cool, he's gonna love it!" They already have two vehicles: a truck and a family car, so they don't need the sports car. Same family, same financial/time situation.

So the mystery is, why is a sports car fine in DH's opinion, but a horse is not?

So that is mystery number 1.

Mystery number 2:

DH went out to pee behind the shop, and found this:

It is a gaff, last seen a week ago, unbroken, on our dock.

Now it is broken behind the shop, with the hook buried at least 2" into the dirt, like this:

It clearly had been buried, and there were scratch marks where it had been buried:

It was getting pretty dark so I don't know if you can see them well, but clearly scratch marks.

I pulled the hook out, and it was about 2" deep in the hole with the dirt piled up around it in a little mound:

What happened here? I don't understand it at all!

And the half mystery: Why do men pee in the yard? DH says it is fun, but we have very nice bathrooms, and he deliberately goes outside to pee. I think it is a territory marking thing, but then, I am an ex-psychologist...

Mystery 1: One needs to compare total cost of ownership, including depreciation charges, and not just cost of acquisition, over the lifetime of the asset. Horse: cheap to get, expensive to keep; car: expensive to get, cheap(er) to keep. Someone needs to crush the numbers. Having said that, it does seem hypocritical because the car is the second item purchased, thus putting additional strain on finances - though not on time.

Mystery 2: Beats me.

Mystery 3: Keeps the bathroom pristine even if there are initial problems with aim.

It is fun. And freeing. And proof we never grow up. It's creative. The john is so limiting.

Definitely. Had a couple more thoughts, but maybe those best suited for the saloon.

My theory on your half mystery is so they don't have to listen to us gripe about them leaving the seat up. LOL
