how do i find where my horse is registered?

Last year I adopted a quarter horse from a rescue but since they rescued her, they don't have any of her papers. This is where the story gets a bit confusing so bear with me... I am almost 100% sure she is registered somewhere (maybe AQHA) because she was an incredible roping horse that won almost all of her competitions so I would think her owner registered her right? she has a brand but the brand wont help us much because it was put on her before her previous owner, in Australia (or maybe it will still help us I don't know anything about registering horses) so anyway is there a website or a phone number i could call to find where she is registered, if she even is? also where do you think she would be registered?
thanks a lot!
p.s sorry if this is the wrong place to put this thread, I wasn't sure if I should've put it in horse talk or horse breeds...

Registration is usually done at birth because its related to breeding, not how many competitions a horse has won. I don't think AQHA will do a DNA search for you but if you can determine who her parents might be they might compare DNA (pretty sure they keep a sample on file). A brand may help you trace her history. Over here, brands are often registered someplace so if you can find the place that branded her it might help you.

Without papers there is no way to know if she is registered anywhere.

With the good registries, you can't just decide to register your horse. There are breeding requirements that you have to prove.

If she was rescued how do they know her show record? Where did she show? She could be registered with a breed or an organization but without papers or a brand, there most likely isn't anyway to ever find out.

I was looking for her brand awhile ago and found someone that has a horse with the same brand, thats how I know she is a quarter horse. The other person said that they have one of the farms studs and they are from a cattle station in australia named innocent valley and they breed quarter horses. So the lady that brought her to the US would have had the papers and be able to register her in the US... I know registering is about the breed and not how many competitons they have won, but it makes sense that the owner would register her because she was a really great competiton horse and the owner wouldnt want anything to happen to her... Also honey was breed (she is still lactating) so thats another reason i believe she is registered because normally people breed registered horses (not always but usually) and I know she was a wonderful roping horse because when the lady called the rescue she sayed "youll never guess who was abandoned in my barn" also the rescues founder did research on honey and found out she was a roping horse (I know the rescue wasnt lyeing to me because they are practically my family)
Thanks for your replies :)

Only way would be to track the brand and see what the owner of the brand knows.
Also, when you register a horse you have to document markings. i'm not certain how the registry itself files these sorts of things but i would contact them and ask. Perhaps there is a way to send her photos and age and see if they can match her up.
Not sure how easy that will be, though.
