How is she bred?

"How is your mare bred?"

I got asked this question by a friend the other day and I soon realized that I know nothing of Arabian bloodlines! While I should have been able to say, "She's bred for x discipline", I simply had no clue! It's getting a bit silly considering I am now showing the breed... I should know a thing or two, right?

I know that Aladdinn* sired many national champions - but champions in what? What are his children and grandchildren normally good at? I personally think she would have made an EXCELLENT endurance horse in her younger years (stamina like it's nobody's business), but arthritis would prevent that now.

She is also 1/4 Saddlebred, but as you can see the bloodlines are pretty vague.

Anyone want to educate me?

She's got Bask pretty close up. My friend had a Bask-bred gelding who was a killer endurance horse. Not only stamina, but a wicked fast lope and gallop. She placed in the top ten in the first endurance ride she took him on and he hadn't raced in six or seven years (was originally trained for it, but "wasn't fast enough," according to his old owners).

You can say her dam was a lovely old lined pure Polish mare. Old lined Polish horses were bred to race by the Polish Studs. They had to prove them selves on the track before they were bred. Many of the horses, once they were imported, did well in all the disciplines from western- like *Aladdin to park - like *Bask.
