What do you think this mare is?

Purely for curiosity what all do you think this mare could be? I just don’t think she’s QH. Not a lot of variety in my area though so would be odd for her to be anything else. She’s about 15.1

I agree with Paint - looks exactly like one I know in terms of build, just a bit taller.

In terms of build?? I thought paint was a colour breed? Is it different in US?

The American Paint Horse is a breed, as far as I am aware. There have been some discussions about if Paints are just patterned Quarter Horses, but I believe Paints are typically regarded as a breed of their own.

Paints are a registered breed. It came about because AQHA would not register horses with excessive white. Most are mostly QH but there are a few other breeds mixed in from back when the registry started. They accepted patterned horses that had stock horse traits. I'd have to go back but the APHA page tells about the history. Because of the heavy AQHA breeding if you have a horse with DNA proven and eligible for AQHA by bloodlines you can double register.

OP your horse if not registered is a lovely example of a grade stock horse. She looks like a quarter horse and if registered would be considered Paint and be APHA.

My guess would be Paint with a little draft mixed in, just looking at her powerful shoulders.

I also think Paint with some draft horse in there somewhere as she’s stockier and heavier in the leg than most Paints tend to be

Just winging it is not a plan
