Thread Title: Updated Smartphone Feedback Thread

We're pleased to announce that we have launched a new smartphone view on the site, in addition to the recently added mobile view in the last upgrade. This version has been designed to have a cleaner look, to fit really nicely into mobile (iPhone, Android) browsers, and unlike most normal web based skins will also include features that are normally reserved for desktop or phone applications. We built this as we realize you all spend more time today on your phones on the forum than you did 2 years ago, and we want to get the mobile view to a place where you can do everything (and more!) that you can do on desktop.

A few notes as I know many of you may have questions:

* This does not replace the free or paid in-apps that you have, such as any mobile apps. This is web-only.
* This new skin will only show when you access the site from a modern (Android 4+, iPhone) phone. It will not show for older phones or for tablets, blackberries or windows phones.
* Please give us some time as we work through bugs. Give it a try, give us feedback in our mobile thread url, and give it a chance. Every change needs time to get used to!

If you visit the site from your mobile phone, you'll get the new view automatically. You can login, post, reply, upload photos, view your private messages and more. You can also use the legacy mobile view by choosing the top left menu and Exit Enhanced Mobile Mode.

The feedback thread for any bugs, etc, please post below.

**Please let use know the device, software version, and browser being used if reporting any issues.

Thanks!

So far it's working fine on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Just getting used to the look and figuring out where everything is. It's a little tricky and not quite straight forward, but I'm getting there!

Thanks for thinking of us mobile users!

I like the snazzy look, but the ads are a bit intrusive and I'm betting the "bells and whistles" will use up a lot of data, which is a concern for me because I do not have unlimited data. I've noticed a lot of "this plugin has crashed" which may just be my phone.

The fact that the page number at the bottom pulses drives me a bit batty. ;)

I'm on an iPhone 4 and I immediately switched out of the "enhanced mobile mode" as soon as I could figure out how. Didn't much care for the new format and just found the way it was set up to be very confusing. I like the regular mobile version MUCH better,

Ditto-took forever to load anything (with an incessant pulsing "loading" message) and the ads were very out of control, seeming to take up 1/2 of the screen. Couldn't find a way to list "new posts," and the names of the forums were not what I was used to so I couldn't find stuff easily. Glad there is an option to get out of the new view.

I haven't played on it much yet, but so far I find it to be overwhelming for a phone. I'm on the iPhone 4S and it just seems really "busy" in my browser and the ads really lag it down. I know advertisements are needed to support such a busy forum, but that many on a phone browser is just overwhelming. I also don't like that I can't use the browser refresh button, I have to use it in the forum. And am not a fan of how the subscribed threads are laid out.

Out of curiosity, how do I switch back to the enhanced mobile version? I switched out of it to check that the regular mobile version still worked correctly after complaints that it didn't. It does. Now I want to go back to the enhanced version and can't figure out how.

I like it so far but I didn't get to use it for more than a few minutes.
I have an iPhone 4S and it seemed fine. I hardly ever used the old mobile version and switched to the desktop version if I was on my phone anyhow.

Quick question, how do you get "todays posts" on the new version without logging in?

It's pretty good in terms of updated design, looking a lot more polished, but I have a bit of an issue: there's just not enough on the screen! The ads down the bottom, plus the ribbons at both ends of the screen, leave only a small square in the middle which really turns me off. I have to constantly scroll to read only a few lines of text at a time.

Although it looks nicer, I preferred the old one. You could have more words on the screen and there weren't so many distractions. The ads in the old skin were fine, barely noticed them particularly after I scrolled down.

I was trying to post a screen shot last night in this thread because the forum kept crashing and just showing up with a bunch of script. But I couldn't even get to this thread to post it. My browser was just a bunch of script running across the screen and a little strip of the forum header at the bottom of my screen.

I use safari on my iPhone 4S on ios 7.1.2

New format

Help, is there any other option? This new mobile format is horrible with my phone. I can't.get to anything except by accident. My phone is an Android LG, not an old phone but this seriously sux. It's. Like
the controls, places where you click what you want at the top of the screen are not showing up

switch back to new format?

I was playing around with the new format when it first switched over. I switched back to the "old" format on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and now I can't figure out how to get back to the new format. Is there a trick somewhere I'm missing?

There should be a drop-down menu, represented by three stacked horizontal lines, in the upper left corner. On that menu should be the option to exit enhanced mobile mode. It will take you back to the old mobile format.

Thank you Drafty Aires, I finally got to it. For whatever reason on my phone the 3 lines are only about half visible and only get it to go through like it should maybe one time out of 20. Very frustrating.
How's that shirt with the guns and roses coming? I still want to see how it turns out. Hang in there girl, and don't sell that big boy of yours, you need to start putting yourself first at this point.

Awww...thanks, oobiedoo!

I have the shirt and I have the pattern...now I just need to find the time to get the two together. Hopefully it'll be a project for this winter after we move into our new place.

At the moment, I can only enter halter anyway, cuz I work in the afternoons when all the western classes are.

I'll post a thread with pics when I start working on the shirt, though. :)

I'm using a MotoX, Android version 4.4.4. Chrome browser.

When I try to use the arrow on the bottom to go to page 2, 95% of the time it doesn't work. I have to use the slider to switch pages, and after I do that the arrows work fine. I've only ever had the issue going from page 1 to page 2, all other page transitions work fine.

I was pretty aghast at the new version because it takes AGES to load and there were less than half the number of threads listed in the section I loaded into. As soon as I discovered the option to return to the normal mobile version I jumped at it!

I'm the odd one out I guess. I like the new site better. I miss my UserCP though... Most of the time on mobile I before I would switch to the full site. I'll have to spend some time on the new one and see how I like it. I like to see new posts to threads I'm following first before I go and look at other threads.

I jumped on my phone and played around on it briefly. It definitely has a nice design to it, i dont really know where everything is, but I'm sure after a bit of a play i will get comfortable with it. The way a thread is set out is good as its easy to see the posts and not have heaps of other information on the page (like a user profile) because on a small screen, it just isnt necessary IMO.

The ads do feel overwhelming. The strip at the bottom with ads blocks up my screen a fair bit and i keep clicking it by mistake.

The flashing loading sign got on my nerves, as did the flashing page numbers at the bottom.

I reckon the screens a little too small, the ads take up too much space.

Overall, decent, but i prefer the old look.

I am really not loving the new upgrade. The ads and the drop down screens made it impossible to see anything of the actual forums. All I wanted was to quick check my threads before bed last night and couldn't find where to do that anywhere. Was relieved when I stumbled across the spray to revert back to the old layout. So much easier to use from my iPhone.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
