He hated the sponge bath but he had to deal. I don't really have a helper as my other two have never needed one and my parents aren't really horse people. He deals with his shoulders well other then that he walks I never stop spraying him when he moves and he got a really good bath last time I use a rope halter on him and he knows to stand but he just dislikes the hose water. it's well water and didn't seem to cold last bath time. I use a spray nozzle and use the rain one on him to keep the preassure to a minimal. I know nothing of his past and his last owner just told me lies.

His reaction is normal for many horses. I've let them just keep circling while on a short lead. Their hindquarter soon tire and want to rest. I'd just follow the horse with the horse. When you do hose him down and he's quite moving, be sure to pop a treat in his mouth. A little motivation can go a long way.

My horse like a softer, gentle flow of water......bathe him more often, so he gets use to it,.....I try to avoid sponging...

I have a hot and cold water tap , outside the back of the house.(insisted on that, when we built our present place, as in the past, I had to bath a horse in Sept, with cold water, as it was snowing!
I then use a hose splitter, and adjust temp, for a thorough bath, as before a show.
On a hot day, just to rinse a horse off after riding, I just use the hose at the barn, which just has cold water
