Question Caring for long manes

Hey guys winters fast approaching and I was just wondering what everyone does to maintain a healthy and long mane. My mare has a long mane and whenever I bring her in throughout winter it's always very knotted and very messy!

I have been advised to try products such as snuggy hoods which cover the mane during turnout but have no experience using these and no idea as to whether it rubs the mane out? Also any products i could put on her mane to help with growth an strength would be much appreciated, let me know what you all do!

I like to braid my horses in about 13 or so simple braids, keeps it tangle free. But you have to watch if you have her in with others horses, cuz sometimes they can bite at each other and accidentally rip a whole braid off, def not something enjoyable...

My mare has a mane like that and i keep it braided most of the time. Winter i usually leave it loose, summer it is up. During summer, it rains nearly daily and my mare rolls whenever she gets wet.

Use detangler and check for twigs daily- even a tiny piece of shavings will cause knots.

I keep long manes braided and show horses also get to wear a Sleazy. No, it doesn't rub out the hair it prevents rubs. Be sure to get one with BIG eye holes, the ones with little eye holes can rub around the eyes if you have a horse with big eyes (like an Arab).

The sleazy hoods are nice and they work well. They do get stretched out and they do snag so you may have to replace them every few months if they're on all the time.
You can also put the mane in braids, fold or roll the braids up to about 3-4 inches and wrap them in a non-colored (beige) vet wrap then squeeze them tightly to crimp the vet wrap securely. This works great for windy places. You can leave them in and once a month redo them. If you use a colored vet wrap it can bleed on to the white mane if it rains or snows.
