Plain gold Lysterine has been used as fly spray for some trail riders. I use the cheapest I can find and dilute it more with water. Repelx , Pyranha both great!

Zinc Oxide, found in the baby section, offers sun protection and is healing.

I am careful to remove all standing water and if puddles can't be easily drained, a few drops of dish detergent breaks down surface tension, needed for mosquito reproduction. A mosquito magnet is set up close to the barn and it makes a huge difference as the little cup is filled to the brim each morning.
That's an excellent idea!

I use one small bottle on Pinesol, I dump it in a gallon jug, then I fill the pinesol bottle with apple cider vinegar, dump it in the jug and fill the rest of the gallon jug with water. Shake it up, pour some in a squirt bottle. This works decently. But there is a new bug this year that this is not helping, and my horse has been having reactions to the bites so I maybe having to start buying the expensive stuff at the store for her.

Never let "good enough," be good enough.
