My horse has a very short tail..help?

I personally don't mind his short tail. It reminds me of American Pharoah (he lost it the same way too)
But everybody says it's sad and I should try to grow it out. Plus, it probably would look better long for shows and I don't want to buy a fake tail.
So, what can I do to help it grow out? We're in a pretty bad drought so I can't bathe him much. Only Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 pm
Thanks in advance!

There are products that supposedly help grow manes and tails out quicker, but that short of tail, it's still going to take years. If it doesn't bother you and if you aren't that interested in presenting an entire pleasing picture to a judge when showing, leave it as is.

I will take 12 to 18 mos for it to grow to his heels again. If you are bathing him twice weekly, use just water as he needs the oils in his coat. Don't brush his tail but carefully pick it with your fingers.

I think it's cute! LOL. I personally would let it grow though, it makes it easier for him to swat flies if it's long.
Have a happy day!

Well all of my boys have had little tails above their hocks when i got them and now two are dragging on the ground and thick! i have to do 3 to 5 braids to keep then nice!!! and one ive had for a year so we are still working but its grown about 6 inches!

I feed Flax and biotin (from a grain mill so very cheep) I feed alfalfa (hes an easy keeper) plus sweet feed. he gets Fat too as hes an easy keeper!. but the first three keep his tail nice! i braid it also one week braided, and one to two weeks not, i use mouth wash and baby oil twice a week in a spray bottle as he has a itchy tail plus helps with dandrift and stuff. and MTG once a week. I almost never brush it unless i have a lot of dangler in.
Thats maverick Tonight after 14 months (first 6 were gaining weight and then went through winter so it didnt really help) and the bay is my QH last summer with his full tail i brushed it out and thats how thick its got in the past 8 years!!!
