Tail Bags

My gelding has a tail that drags the ground even when it’s braided. I was gonna buy a tail bag for it to keep him from stepping on it. I’ve never used one and was wondering if they are okay for 24/7 turn out as long as I take it out and rebraid it once or twice a week. This is probably a stupid and obvious question, but I really have no experience with them and just wanted to be sure. If not, any other suggestions to keep it off the ground?

I have been bragging on "The Tail Boot" the last two years after trying the typical tie and braid in lycra tail bags.

https://tailboot.com/collections/frontpage

I originally bought her first-generation boot which was sewn halfway up but had the velcro all the way to tighten around the tail.

The second generation tail boot comes with a lycra bag insert. I still love it but I have had it come out despite watching the YouTube video. My friend who also uses them says she figured them out so they dont. She is supposed to come show me.

Anyhow I have left the tail boot on for 3 months during our harsh winter with no issues. And they are very durable.

I DON'T LEAD 'EM AND FEED 'EM, I RIDE 'EM AND SLIDE 'EM.

I don't like tailbags when they're out on pasture. Here's a really good one for putting the tail up to keep it protected. She mentions using Vet Wrap or GuardTex. DON'T use Vet Wrap, that stuff will make an unholy MESS in the tail and can be very hard to get out. GuardTex is worth the extra money, you can order it from Schneider's. She also uses GuardTex for the whole thing, I use an old tube sock and wrap the top with the GuardTex. I do wrap the tail as she shows, before I put on the sock, then finish up after I get the sock on. Saves a little money by not using so much GuardTex.
