when I bring my mare in from the field at night there are 15-20 mosquitoes just on her head. The fly spray at the store doesn't do anything, but keep a gross smell on her. So the question is, does anyone know of a homemade recipe that will help the problem? I need something STRONG!
Vaseline and citronella mixed together, it stays on and lasts longer. I had a friend who lived in Fort McMurray, AB and she slathered it on her horses, the saying up there is the Mosquitos need their own airstrip to land!
Mosquito Halt is the only stuff that works in my part( swamps, a mile away and irrigation ditches all around us). I wipe it on, late afternoon, seems to last until next day around lunch.
Also had good results with Avon Skin-so-Soft Original Bath Oil, but it needs to be applied twice a day. It does smell better than the Mosquito Halt;-)
I will try a few different recipes and see which one keeps those nasty things off!
